Staff Nurse – On Contract

Job Purpose:

To provide quality health care services for the employees and their dependents and to manage the efficient running of the medical centre and the Company’s Emergency Medical Technician team. Also provides assistance to the Company’s Doctor in attending to the employees’ overall health related issues. 

 The key Duties/Responsibilities of this position are shown below: 

1. Coordinates the daily activities of the Medical Centre to effectively support the organization.
2. Conducts pre-employment medicals as directed by the Doctor and tracks and reviews baseline health data keeping with the Company’s Health Surveillance Policy.
3. Identifies all medical and health screening requirements and maintains information on medical screening matrix in accordance with the Company’s Health Surveillance Policy.
4. Educates patients on various medical conditions, develops and implements company-wide wellness programs.
5. Treats patients and assists employees with their rehabilitation.
6. Provides advice and emotional support to patients and their dependents.
7. Administers medication as prescribed by the doctor when necessary.
8. Maintains employees’ records of symptoms, monitors progress and keeps records of other information maintaining patient’s confidentiality in accordance with medical standards and best practice.
9. Tracks work-related injuries and provides related reports with recommendations for prevention.
10. Oversees the conduct of on-site random and periodic screening for drugs including alcohol.
11. Supervises the maintenance of patients’ files and information.
12. Participates in annual/periodic health surveillance programs and schedules special examinations for employees identified as well as records related data in accordance with the OSH Act and Company’s Health Surveillance Policy.
13. Advises the Manager, Human Resources of persons with medical restrictions.
14. Manages occupational injury/illness cases to ensure prompt and effective treatment and to prevent unwarranted lost time cases.
15. Provides guidance to the Doctor on occupational injury and illness case management.
16. Liaises with and supervises the provision of other health care services provided by the district nurses re: vaccinations etc.
17. Advises Managers/Supervisors on occupational health issues.
18. Coordinates the removal of medical waste for disposal as well as ensures that medical linens are laundered in a timely manner. 

Minimum Qualifications:

•  Registered Nurse Certification.
• Diploma in Management would be an asset. 

Minimum Experience:

•  Eight (8) year working experience in a similar position.

Specific Skills:

• Intermediate Computer Literacy skills, Supervisory Skills, Counselling Skills
• Excellent Communication Skills, both verbal and written
• First Responder Skills.
• Certification in Occupational Safety and Health

Contract Period:  1 year with an option to renew

CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Job Summary:

The Chief Operating Officer reports to the CEO and is responsible for developing, and executing the Company’s operational strategy and providing the leadership required to achieve the operational performance targets in the Company’s strategic plan.

 The key Duties/Responsibilities of this position are shown below: 

1. Oversees the operations of the plant to ensure the achievement of budgeted production volumes, plant uptime, and targeted efficiencies of all equipment.
2. Develops and implements predictive and preventative maintenance systems to avoid plant interruptions.
3.  Approves the use of permanent, contract, and casual labour to optimise the use of operational manpower and contain manpower cost.
4. Reviews designs and implements quality control systems and procedures to achieve the production of high-quality products consistent with approved standards and specifications.
5. Reviews and updates all safety and environmental systems and practices to ensure that the operations of the company are conducted in accordance with the highest level of occupational health, safety and environmental standards consistent with OSH Act and company policies.
6. Develops and implements operational strategies to improve operational efficiencies, boost business growth and improve the profitability of the business.
7.  Apprises the CEO timely on the conditions of the Company’s operations and on all important factors influencing or having the potential to influence such conditions.
8. Prepares draft policies, procedures and programmes makes recommendations of control procedures to   maintain good governance practices within the operations.
9. Effectively administers and controls the implementation and adherence to policies, procedures and programmes to maintain good governance practices within the operations.
10. Collaborates with all other departments within the company particularly human resources, information technology, finance, purchasing & logistics, and marketing to ensure achievement of the company’s strategies and goals.
11.  Prepares tenders and other bid documents to secure services of external agencies or consultants to examine, assess, investigate or facilitate changes in operations, procedures and methods.
12. Authorizes and executes such contracts and commitments as may be required by law, the Board of Directors or established policies.
13. Prepares draft operations budget and submits to the CEO timely to meet the approved timeline for the Board of Directors.
14. Safeguards and appropriately administers all Company funds, physical assets and other property in the best interest of the Company.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in Engineering, Management or related field (preferred).
• Bachelor’s Degree in either Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering
• Further training in Human Resource Management, Finance, Marketing and Leadership.
• Certification in Project Management.

Minimum Years’ Experience:

• Twelve (12) years relevant managerial experience with a minimum of five at Executive level.
• Experience in a mining and extraction industry would be an asset.
• Experience working in a Health and Safety culture.

Specific Skills/Experience/Knowledge:

• Expert understanding of financial statements and intermediate knowledge of procurement and supply chain processes.
• Intermediate knowledge of budgeting, sales, business development, information technology and strategic planning.
• Excellent interpersonal, communications, negotiation, public speaking and presentation skills.
• Distribution and partnership development experience.

• The ability to set priorities and take initiative.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to generate respect and trust from staff and external stakeholders
• Ability to perform with a high degree of professionalism, integrity and business ethics

The Company has been mining, processing and exporting asphalt products for over one hundred years. It is a global organization with distributors and alliances in five of the world’s seven continents.

The Company processes and exports Trinidad Lake Asphalt (TLA), which is mined from the Pitch Lake in La Brea. TLA, a premium quality enhancer for refinery bitumen, is used in a number of applications worldwide, including the paving of some of the largest roadways, highways, bridge decks, racetracks and airport runways across the globe.

Apart from TLA, Lake Asphalt manufactures and markets a range of Cationic bitumen Emulsions produced in its state-of-the-art Bitumen Emulsion Plant. The Company is also a distributor of Refinery Bitumen, a range of coatings that use TLA as a base branded as the LASCO Range of Products, and a mixture of TLA and Refinery Bitumen known as TLA Blend (AC), all of which are used locally and exported regionally and internationally.
