The role of the Area Manager is to represent Campari Group in the assigned geography of his/her role. Through the management of our Third-Party Distribution partners, the aim is to deliver bottom line according to the agreed budget and increase net sales revenue & volume in these key markets.
Position Context
At Campari Group, one of the top international players in the Premium Spirits Category, we are heavily investing in Jamaica & the Caribbean as we see great opportunities for our portfolio of brands.
The Business Unit Americas is based within Group HQ in New York, USA. The Business Unit has commercial responsibility over the US, Canada, the Caribbean and South America. The Jamaica & Caribbean Business Unit (J. Wray & Nephew) is based in Kingston, Jamaica.
The Area Managers for the Caribbean are responsible to provide leadership for the successful commercial development of Campari Groups/JWN brands, through effective partnership with our third parties distributors in a multicultural environment, with varying levels of sophistication. Five (5) countries fall into the perimeter of responsibility including (Barbados, Guyana, St Lucia, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago). These may be revised based on strategic considerations. In order to be successful, the Area Manager â Southern Caribbean must be able to devise strategies and measures to overcome the varied and unique market conditions. Each territory typically being small, with distributors operating with deeply entrenched local practices and challenges.
The role reports to the Senior Commercial Manager, Caribbean & Central America Partnership Markets. The mission of the role is the creation, development, and execution of an integrated marketing and commercial approach to deliver business results in the region.
General Description of the Role
The role of the Area Manager is to represent Campari Group in the assigned geography of his/her role. Through the management of our Third-Party Distribution partners, the aim is to deliver bottom line according to the agreed budget and increase net sales revenue & volume in these key markets.
- Executing the Vision for the Area, developing and executing the Country Vision, Route-To-Market, Marketing and Commercial Strategy
- Driving the Day-to-Day relationship with the Third-Party Distributor
- Being the on-the-ground leaders and insight providers for the Caribbean Marketing department
- Driving new development projects from a product or a distribution point of view
Staff
This position has no direct reports. However, he/she will have an indirect leadership responsibility for the Caribbean Marketing department as well as follow up of the Commercial Back Office Assistants assigned to the region (based in Jamaica).
Travel
Frequent travel is required (the position will probably require 40% travel)
Key Activities & Responsibilities
- Manage the Area of responsibility to deliver Commercial and Marketing objectives, ensuring that the mission, core values and policies of the Group are put into practice.
- Responsible for setting & executing Area specific commercial results (Volume, NSV, A&P and Market Share)
- Champions the business planning and forecasting process to ensure effective and timely shipments and accurate financial planning; proposes improvements to processes/systems in place.
- Define and execute a winning brand portfolio strategy to focus investments on strategic key Market/Brand combinations with assigned territory.
- Acts as indirect leader for Marketing & the Regional Trade Marketing Manager, validating key decisions (e.g., annual marketing plans, activity plans etc.)
- Builds strategic / long-term relationships with MDs of key distributors.
- Validates distribution agreements in conjunction with Group legal department.
- Guides/participates to the main decisions entailing changes to the Route-To-Market, proposes changes to the overall organization, builds awareness of on-going trends in the markets to identify possible growth levers (incl. M&A), works with Business Development to build business cases.
- Are the business expert and the ambassador of the Area for the rest of the Group.
Operational Activities
- Supervising, motivating, and monitoring team performance (internal and external)
- Setting of SMART commercial objectives for Third-Party Distribution partners
- Co-responsible of pricing strategies
- Maintaining and sharing detailed knowledge of the company’s products or services
- Keeping abreast of what competitors are doing.
- Ensuring alignment with central functions
Key Relationships
Internal:Â Commercial and marketing teams, Customer Service department, Finance, Legal, Product Supply Chain Management and Freight & Logistics.
External: MDs of distributors and other business partners, as well as their Commercial and Marketing senior management teams, key customers and sometimes wholesalers and retailers.
Experience Required
This role requires well-established commercial experience in the Caribbean within the Spirits or Tobacco business, as well as strong marketing experience within an International FMCG environment. Dealing and interaction with multiple cultures is required.
Education / Professional Qualifications
Academic background in Economics and Business or related field (Bachelorâs degree is mandatory, Master/MBA is a plus)

- A strong team-player, self-motivated and capable of performing single handedly/independently
- Track record of meeting the demands of internal and external stakeholders across multiple territories

- Strong analytical approach
- Strong planning skills
- Good project management skills
- Good spreadsheet/planning tools skills
Languages
- English, mother tongue or fluent
- Spanish & French a plus
