1. GUIDANCE COUNSELLOR
Job Summary:
Responsible for planning, managing and delivering a programme of School Guidance and Counselling.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts individual Group Counselling for students and parents to enable them to experience personal growth.
- Designs and delivers group guidance sessions for students on a variety of academic, personal/social and career development
- Designs and delivers parent education sessions.
- Conducts needs assessment and on-going research in guidance and counselling related matters.
Skills and Competencies
- Ability to conduct interviews effectively and to analyse and evaluate casework material.
- Ability to establish an effective working relationship with and among other employees, students, parents and staff across gender, ethnic, socio-economic status and cultural stereotypes.
- Knowledge of theories of group dynamics and counselling.
- Knowledge of case-work methods and techniques.
- Knowledge of the Childrenâs Act, Sexual Offences and other laws related to children and adolescents.
- Knowledge of the organisation and management of the education system of Trinidad & Tobago.
Qualifications and Experience:
- AÂ first degree from an accredited University in Psychology/Behavioural Sciences.
- Additional Certification in Guidance & Counselling and experience in the school system will be an asset.

2. SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER
Job Summary:
The School Social Worker is responsible for assisting suspended students and students with behavioural difficulties and their parents/guardians in overcoming social, emotional and financial obstacles.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interviews students and members of their families in the diagnosis and evaluation of their difficulties.
- Interprets to teaching staff and Guidance Officers those social, economic, environmental and personal factors affecting studentsâ behaviour.
- Prepares case histories, written reports and confers with Guidance Officers on case reports.
- Assesses studentsâ needs by home visits and personal interviews and arranges for assistance, social, financial or otherwise as required.
- Creates linkages and sources community, governmental and non-governmental resources to assist clients with special needs
- Participates in the delivery of parent/guardian education sessions on a variety of Psycho-Social needs
- Participates in in-service training conducted by the Ministry of Education
- Participates in case conferences re: intervention strategies for students with behaviour difficulties
- Engages in the follow-up of student
Qualifications and Experience:
- BSc. Degree in Social Work or its equivalent from an accredited University.
- Three (3) years’ experience in the field of Social Work
- At least one (1) year internship in the school/education system.

3. SENIOR SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER
Job Summary:
The Senior Social Worker is responsible for administering and directing all activities related to the provision of school social work services in schools. The incumbent will be required to provide direct and on-going leadership to School Social Workers within the assigned district.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Articulates the philosophy and goals of the SSSD in accordance with Governmentâs policy.
- Assists in planning and organising the professional and supporting services of the SSSD.
- Coordinates the delivery and implementation of social work services in various schools in conjunction with the Social Work Specialist.
- Supervises the work of the School Social Workers at the various schools.
- Monitors the implementation of specialized intervention programmes.
- Liaises with other institutions performing similar services for students with such needs.
- Collates and analyses the School Social Workerâs reports for submission to the Social Work Specialist.
- Participates in on-going professional development activities.
- Consults with Principals and other school administrators on matters concerning Social Work.
- Participate in the activities of the Multi-disciplinary Team in the District.
- Plans and conducts parent education seminars, workshops and lectures.
- Coordinates and network with other social agencies and non-governmental organizations.
- Performs related work as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- BSc. Degree in Social Work or its equivalent from an accredited University.
- Five (5) to Eight (8) years in the field of Social Work
- At least four (4) yearsâ experience in a teaching or counselling position in the education system.
- Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the education system in Trinidad and Tobago
- Experience in dealing with students with behavioural problems.
- Experience in teaching will be an asset.
