Job Summary:
The Paralegal supports the efficient operations of the Legal & Compliance Department, Financial Services Sector (FSS) by applying knowledge of legal concepts and processes. Under the direction of the Head of Legal & Compliance, the Paralegal conducts legal research, drafts routine documents, assists with project intake and execution, assists with and manages data and files.
Job Description:
- Provides support to all Lead Counsels in the Legal & Compliance Department as it relates to the day-to-day function of the Department.
- Performs internal file management, including the printing and photocopying of relevant documents, the recording of all correspondence received and dispatched in respect of matters and the updating of client information.
- Requests and receives instructions from Financial Sector companies in respect of all incoming and ongoing matters.
- Requests and collect documentation from all Financial Sector companies in relation to incoming and ongoing matters in line with the instructions received to assist Lead Counsels in their analysis of matters and case management.
- Prepares / drafts litigation letters, including pre-action protocol letters and demand letters to debtors and provides same to Lead Counsels for review and sign off.
- Collects all Department’s mail and reads all incoming correspondence and directs same to the relevant Lead Counsels.
- Conducts basic legal research and communicates the results based on the instructions of the Lead Counsels within the Department.
- Manages the timely receipt and payment of all invoices from external counsel in all legal matters and ensures all such invoices comply with the terms of engagement agreed with external counsel.
- Maintains a current working knowledge of regulations and policies annexed to the work conducted by the Department.
- Validates current processes and identifies possible process changes to increase efficiencies within the department.
- Files and serves Court documents as required by the Lead Counsels within the Department.
- Ensures on-time and in full (OTIF) delivery of all assigned tasks.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Five (5) years’ experience working in a legal environment
Additional qualification:
- Proficient in Microsoft office
- Excellent legal research and excellent writing skills
- Demonstrate knowledge of local Company and Corporate laws
- Solid organizational skills, ability to organize and support multiple projects and a multifaceted workload, and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced, detailed-oriented environment.

JOB TITLE: Financial Services Sector – Lead Counsel
REPORTS TO: Head of Legal and Compliance, Financial Services
FUNCTIONAL ASSIGNMENT:
The Financial Services Sector – Lead Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice to ANSA Bank Limited, ANSA Merchant Bank Limited, Trinidad & Tobago Insurance Limited, Tatil Life Assurance Limited, Brydens Insurance and Consolidated Finance Co. Limited in connection with all aspects of the companies’ operations, including advice related to new business lines and investments. Responsibilities will also include preparation of applications, notices, and other regulatory submissions to applicable regulators.
This Attorney-at-Law will report to the Head of Legal and Compliance, Financial Services Sector (“FSS”), who may modify or change his/her duties and responsibilities based on prevailing organizational needs and/or business conditions within the ANSA McAL Group.
GENERAL DUTIES:
- Providing professional legal services to the companies in FSS by analysing and advising regarding legal, regulatory and reputation issues arising that affect the businesses’ products and services.
- Drafting and negotiating contracts as well as assessing and mitigating risks.
- Advising personnel engaged in drafting of documents regarding the legal risks and issues.
- Assisting in the formulation of policy in response to new regulations and guidelines that impact FSS and advising how to proactively manage any issues that may arise.
- Providing legal advice for working groups established to guide and manage the implementation of procedures in response to new regulations and guidelines.
- Liaising with management in the relevant Compliance and Audit Departments for the purpose of advising on a wide array of regulatory issues in support of the companies’ efforts to achieve their business goals in compliance with laws and regulations.
- Overseeing litigation matters and settlement negotiations with a view to achieving a beneficial commercial outcome.
- Providing support on legal due diligence exercises and advising on merger & acquisition legal and regulatory issues generally.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor of Laws Degree.
- A Master of Laws (LLM) would be considered an asset.
- Eligible to practice law in Trinidad and Tobago along with at least ten (10) years postqualification experience.
BUSINESS AND TECHNICAL SKILLS / CORE COMPETENCIES
- Computer literate- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to assess and effectively manage risks associated with the business objectives and activities to ensure alignment with the companies’ risk appetite and risk management framework.
- Strong knowledge of practices, applicable laws, rules, and regulations governing proper business conduct; ability to demonstrate ethical behavior in diverse situations.
- Understand effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques; ability to negotiate successfully across the organisation and with external vendors and clients in a constructive and collaborative manner.
- Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies.

The Project Director is responsible for overall management of the project (see JD for details). The Project Director will make strategic decisions and provide leadership and direction to project managers to implement those decisions.
FUNCTIONAL ASSIGNMENT:
The Project Director is responsible for overall management of the project including liaising with the clients; co-ordinating and leading vendors; supervising members of the project team; overseeing project implementation, financial and administrative oversight, reporting and monitoring and evaluation of the project. The Project Director will make strategic decisions and provide leadership and direction to project managers to implement those decisions.
GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide strategic leadership and technical, operational, financial and managerial leadership for successful implementation of project activities.
- Provide oversight of project implementation including all activities, outputs and outcomes related to project management and administration, including reporting, budget development and monitoring, execution of project plans and project performance.
- Oversee development of a monitoring and evaluation plan for the successive phases of the project to capture project performance and results.
- Manage Project Staffing, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation and disciplinary actions.
- Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communication with the steering committee members
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in the field of computer science and/or project management is required.
- At least 10 years’ equivalent work experience.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Certifications in Agile and other related project disciplines
BUSINESS/TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- Proven experience in building and managing professional teams.
- Experience in successfully using project management tools to execute large scale global projects. Strong understanding of project management principles.
- Strong understanding of human resource management principles, practices and procedures.
- Has proven experience in successful project delivery.
- Must be able to analyse and correct complex process and/or system issues of a broad scope using independent judgment.
- Sound grasp of quality assurance in project deliverables.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Project Professional, and Microsoft Office productivity software.
