Job Summary:
Leads and oversee Insurance Finance activities in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Key Accountabilities
• Leads and drives the implementation of IFRS 17 for all insurance entities together with the project team and socialise impacts to main stakeholders.
• Leads and drives a customer focused culture through their team to deepen client relationships and leverage border bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
• The ongoing design, development and maintenance of the necessary financial internal controls and accounting procedures for the region’s insurance entities and distribution networks.
• The ongoing design, development and review of policies and procedures to ensure regional compliance with all legislation & regulatory bodies for statutory reporting / filings as well as parent Group (Scotiabank) and Bank of Nova Scotia compliance requirements.
• Managing and executing the annual profit planning and forecasting process with the assistance of the Management Reporting team
• Managing the preparation of financial regulatory reporting including preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual Financial Statements, taxation, Regulatory reports to local and regional insurance regulators and compliance, Investment & Credit Interest Rate Committees.
• Managing the annual external audit function of the three insurance entities.
Educational Requirements
• A graduate degree (MSC / MBA) in Accounting or Finance and an accounting designation (ACCA or CPA) with 6 – 8 year’s work experience is a prerequisite.
• Very strong knowledge of accounting, with an excellent working knowledge of IFRS particularly applicable to Insurance Companies.
• Very strong knowledge of IFRS 17 and its application.
• Ability to manage complex issues in an organized and timely fashion, gathering factors affecting performance, isolating the issues and assessing their effect on the Company.
• Ability to deliver quality analyses and reports to meet very tight deadlines; adaptability to work on several high priority items at once; experience with financial reporting procedure; good personal management abilities and self-motivational characteristics.
• A strong proficiency in using computer spreadsheets and word processing applications is required. Ability to conceptualise problems and clearly communicate solutions, ability to apply analytical techniques for evaluating investments and make sound recommendations.
• Ability to motivate and effectively manage high performing teams.

Manager Record Inventory Management (RIM)

Job Summary:
The incumbent is accountable to support the implementation and sustainment of the Records Inventory Management Policy and Framework, understanding and advocating enterprise RIM management & governance framework, policy, standards, and procedures in order to effectively manage and govern records inventory throughout the record lifecycle.
Key Accountabilities
- Assist local business line(s) and/or corporate functions in identifying local Record Stewards for country/regional Domains
- Advocate enterprise policy, standards, and procedures to local record practitioners in business lines and corporate functions.
- Provide local training and support regarding understanding and implementation of enterprise policy, standards, and procedures.
- Conduct gap analysis between local RIM capabilities and governance requirements set for the enterprise by the RIM COE.
- Support in defining and tracking initiatives to address gap in RIM capabilities.
- Provide oversight for definitions and documentation of business records requirements by local business lines and corporate functions
- Oversees roll-out of RIM onboarding, training and communications for the business and corporate function within the country/region.
- Oversees the creation, review, retention and ultimate disposal of records within the country in alignment with the bank’s RIM policies, standards, and guidelines
- Provides oversight and training for Records Stewards.
- Collaborates with the RIM Program team and Records Stewards to monitor compliance with RIM policies and implement any remediation actions.
- Identifies risks, issues, and decisions, and escalates them to the IB RIM Ambassador
- Provides input into development of RIM strategies, policies, and programs, and advises on specific issues based on knowledge of the business and corporate function within the country/region.
- Maintains awareness of the BNS RIM strategy.
Educational Requirements
This role requires an expert understanding of records inventory management leading practices.
An undergraduate degree or international equivalent is required. Advanced degree or certifications in Data Governance, Compliance, Legal, Risk or Audit are preferred but not mandatory.
A minimum of 3 years of experience working at a financial institution with knowledge and familiarity of records management and governance processes, or related fields of expertise.
Experience with different facets of records management lifecycle including governance for storage, retention, retrievability, metadata, and archival.
Experience in establishing and successfully leading cross functional programs.
Proven ability to coordinate cross functional teams of IT professionals, business executives, and other key stakeholders towards common goals and objectives.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify, quantify, and effectively raise business risks associated with records inventory.
The role requires an expertise in understanding the business uses of records inventory and the linkage to the technical development, storage, and sourcing of the same data.
The role requires expert level influencing and inter-personal skills, and the ability to clearly communicate complex issues effectively to ensure key stakeholders understand all risks and priorities.
