JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY
To provide a variety of counselling, rehabilitation, and support services to ensure the academic, career, and personal/social development of students at assigned campus.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collects data about individuals through the use of interviews, case history and observational techniques;
- Selects, administers, scores and interprets psychological tests designed to assess individuals’ intelligence, aptitudes, abilities and interests;
- Evaluates data to identify causes of problems of students and determines advisability of counseling or referral to other specialists or institution;
- Conducts individual and group counselling and therapeutic interviews to assist students to gain insight into personal problems, define goals and plan action reflecting their interest, abilities and needs;
- Facilitates workshops to equip students with skills to avoid crisis situations;
- Provides occupational, educational and other information to enable students to formulate realistic educational and vocational plans;
- Follows up results of counselling to determine reliability and validity of treatment used;
- Engages in research to develop and improve diagnostic and counselling techniques;
- Provides consultation to members of staff on issues impacting students;
- Integrates services of the Counselling unit with other units of the Division to ensure consistent and effective provision of support services for students;
- Performs any other related duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Master’s Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work or related field
- Minimum of five (5) years post-qualification counseling experience
- Clinical supervisory experience an asset

- Ability to provide counselling to a diverse clientele

- Strong decision making, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Extensive experience in planning, coordinating and scheduling work/projects
- Knowledge of research methodologies and conducting research/surveys
- Proficient in the use of MS Office/related software
- Familiarity with the university environment
