The Ministry of Education, invites applications from suitably qualified persons to pursue a three (3) year full-time
General Nursing Education Programme.
The General Nursing Education Programme will accommodate the following successful applicants:

Training is scheduled to commence virtually on June 06, 2022.
A two-week Introduction to Chemistry course is scheduled as a pre-requisite for successful applicants.
This Introductory course will commence from May 23, 2022 to June 03, 2022.
PROGRAMME DETAILS
The Programme of training will provide the General Nursing student with a range of theoretical and practical experiences designed to develop Clinical competencies in delivery and management of nursing care for patients in Secondary, Tertiary and Community Health Care settings.
This training Programme will utilize an approach that combines block periods of theory in a virtual classroom environment with extensive periods of Clinical practice in the General Clinical setting.
Basic General Nursing Education Programme
These experiences cover those aspects of the syllabus for Certification as a Registered General Nurse (RN). Graduates of the Basic General Nursing Education Programme will be registered by the Nursing Council of Trinidad & Tobago upon successful completion of the Council’s Regional Examination for Nurse Registration (RENR). They can then function autonomously and collaboratively in the administration of General Nursing care for individuals of all ages, families, groups and communities.
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:
All applicants must possess:
Five (5) Ordinary Level subjects at G.C.E or C.X.C/CSEC (General Proficiency Level) Grades I, II and III (from June 1998 onward) inclusive of English Language, a Science subject (Human and Social Biology(Grades A, B and C only are accepted) Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Integrated Science) a subject which demonstrates proficiency in numeracy skills, such as Mathematics or Principles of Accounts AND two (2) other reading subjects such as Geography, History, English Literature or Social Studies.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
All applicants must:
(a) be citizens of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
(b) be seventeen (17) years and older.
(c) complete the application form (including the provision of two(2) references, not older than
six(6)months).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- All applicants will be required to obtain a student nurse permit from the Nursing Council of Trinidad & Tobago with their application.
- A Certificate of Good Character not older than six months (receipts will not be accepted).
- Applicants employed by Regional Health Authorities (RHA) MUST show evidence of approval from their respective RHA to pursue the General Nursing Programme.
Only applications received by the deadline date of March 31, 2022, with an accompanying student nurse permit from the Nursing Council of Trinidad & Tobago and the Certificate of Good Character (receipts will not be accepted) from the Trinidad & Tobago Police Service, in response to this advertisement will be considered.
STIPEND
The payment of a monthly stipend to eligible students will be provided by the Ministry of Education during the period of training.
- Students will be required to provide their own uniforms, books, meals, accommodation and transport.
- Students will not be required to meet any tuition fees.
CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATION:
Upon entry into the Basic General Nursing Education Programme, students will be required to enter into a contractual agreement to serve the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago/one of the Regional Health Authorities in Trinidad & Tobago for a period of three (3) years following successful completion of training.

Short listed applicants will be required to be interviewed, at which the following MUST be submitted.
- Original and copies of academic GCE/CXC/CSEC (General Proficiency) Certificates.
- Copies of two (2) reference/testimonials (not older than six months). The person giving the testimonial/reference MUST give a written contact number & an address.
- A copy of your Electronic Birth Certificate and Affidavit (if applicable).
- A copy of your Electronic Marriage Certificate (if applicable).
- A copy of the Nursing Council’s student nurse permit.
- A Police Certificate of Character (receipts will not be accepted).
- A correct address/postal address and a telephone/contact number.
- Approval letter from the relevant RHA (if applicable).
Successful applicants will be contacted and will have to complete a Medical Form, which can be obtained at the School of Nursing, Level 1, Ministry of Education. This information will go onto the student’s file for ease of reference in case of an emergency.
