TRAFFIC SAFETY OFFICER VACANCY
Kind of Work
Responsible field work assisting in the promotion of the Road Safety Programme on a national scale.
Distinguishing Features of Work
An employee in this class assists in promoting road safety education throughout the nation. Work involves lecturing, presentation of film shows, checking highway safety aids and investigating complaints of Traffic hazards. Duties necessitate thorough familiarity with highway safety regulations and procedures. Special assignments are received in the nature of written and oral instructions. The work is performed under general supervision and the employee is expected to exercise considerable initiative and independent judgement in the implementation of planned programmes. A superior reviews the work through analysis of the reports submitted.
Examples of Work
Assists a superior in the preparation and implementation of road safety programmes for the nation.
Lectures to school audiences, presenting safety film shows and demonstrations and giving instructions to teachers on safety education and methods for teaching road safety.
Lectures to civic organisations including Parent-Teacher Associations, Adult Education Classes, Motorists Association and Learner drivers; aids in establishing and maintaining driver education in these groups by providing programmes of education and advising in methods and procedures through conferences and published bulletins.
Prepares radio, television and press releases regarding highway and pedestrian safety measures. Investigates complaints and suggestions made relative to traffic hazards, handicaps, bus stops and parking facilities.
Reports on maintenance of road signs and markings, and the improper functioning of traffic lights.
Performs related work as required.
Required knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of the principle of road safety.
Considerable knowledge of the procedures and methods used in road safety education.
Considerable knowledge of motor vehicles and the applicable safety laws. Considerable knowledge of the island-wide highway schemes.
Ability to operate a 16 mm film projector.
Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Ability to lecture to school children and adult groups.
Ability to organise, plan and supervise a group of sub-ordinates.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
Good eyesight and observational ability.
Minimum Experience and Training
Experience (18 months to 4 years) in the field of traffic engineering as may have been gained in other related classes; and training as evidenced by a General Certificate of Education, Ordinary Level with passes in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.

MINISTRY OF WORKS AND TRANSPORT
- In keeping with Regulation 15 of the Public Service Commission Regulations, suitably qualified persons are invited to submit an application for the above mentioned office.

HR Unit vi. File the Application Form for Promotion in the Public Service and the Online Application PDF on the Applicant’s Personnel File at the Ministry / Department / Agency.
HR Unit vii. Applicants will receive an e-mail indicating that the Application Form for Promotion in the Public Service was successfully submitted by their respective
HR Unit to the SCD.
If the Applicant’s data submitted by the HR Unit does not match any registered applicant, the HR Unit will receive an email stating such and will be notified to resubmit.

The Applicant can make an enquiry to their HR Unit if an e-mail is not received from the SCD that their Application Form for Promotion in the Public Service has been submitted by their HR Unit before the closing date of the advertisement.
