      The Pharmacy Assistant reports to the senior Pharmacist assigned to the facility.

      5. NATURE & SCOPE

      The Pharmacy Assistant is responsible for providing support to the Pharmacists as well as other classifications of Pharmacy staff, to collectively provide a high quality of service and health care to both the internal and external clientele inclusive of but not limited to physicians, nurses and patients.

      6. SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

      The Pharmacy Assistant:

      •   Assists in the preparation and compounding of both Aseptic and Non-sterile extemporaneous formulation.
      •   Screens, verifies, processes and prepares proprietary/bulk stock/ward stock/medication orders and requests.
      •   Receives and stores stock and check for expiry dates of all pharmaceutical items.
      •   Assists in entering prescription orders into the information system (electronic or paper-based).
      •   Prepares documentation for recordkeeping (physical and electronic) as well as other inventorymanagement related documentation inclusive of and not limited to dangerous drugs, antibiotics,controlled drugs and general prescription books.
      •   Assists in the preparation and maintenance of ward medication carts and deliver same.
      •   Co-ordinates with Pharmacists and others in the preparation of up-to-date drug availability lists forvarious authorized clients including and not limited to medical practitioners, as well as other pharmacyrelated inventory related correspondence.
      •   Assists in the pre-packaging of therapeutic and non-therapeutic items, including solids, liquids,injectibles, ointments and creams.
      •   Performs related work as required by the appropriate Authority.

      7. KEY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

      •   Knowledge of Pharmaceutical support fundamental, principles and practices.
      •   Sound knowledge of the Policies and Legal Regulatory Framework of the institution.
      •   Strong communicative and interpersonal skills.
      •   Sound comprehensive, analytical and calculative ability.
      •   Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and clients
      •   Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite
      •   Inventory management skills

      8. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

      •   Certificate in Pharmacy Assistant from College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) or another recognized University.
      •   Five (5) CXC/GCE O’Level passes inclusive of Mathematics and English A
      •   At least one (1) year experience in a pharmacy setting.
      •   Any equivalent combination of training and experience.

      5. NATURE & SCOPE

      The Nursing Assistant is responsible for ensuring healthcare is provided to all clients after receiving instructions from the Medical Officer, District Health Visitor or District Nurse. He/She relieves the workload of the Head Nurse/District Health Visitor/District Nurse/ Nurse by providing actual duties to the clients. He/She also ensures that the patient care environment is prepared for the safe and effective care of customers.

      6. SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

      The Nursing Assistant would be required to:

      •   Provide patient care on a personal level; take vital signs and monitor volume flow.
      •   Prepare or perform several procedures such as simple dressings, patient bathing, giving enemas, etc.
      •   Admit and record vital signs and patient history from clients or relatives.
      •   Serve patient meals and ensure appropriate diet per client, feed the client and take the client to the toiletbefore and after meals.
      •   Make the beds, prepare trays for procedure, carbolize unmade bed, lockers and IV stands.
      •   Administer insulin to diabetic clients.
      •   Perform personal hygiene of clients: shower, oral care, toilet duties, hair care, nail care, and maintainpressure areas by lifting and turning every two (2) hours or as recommended.
      •   Test urine and record findings on client’s notes.
      •   Assist in client teaching with supervision from the Nurse.
      •   Prepare clients for physical examination by the Medical Officer.
      •   Prepare rooms, trays and trolleys for clinic activities, home care and school health examination.
      •   Check/Prepare materials and equipment for sterilization and report any defects to the Nurse Manager.
      •   Ensure requisition of supplies e.g. dressing supplies are maintained at acceptable levels and informsupervisors of deficiencies for ordering.
      •   Assist with maintenance of cold chain for vaccines.
      •   Participate in client escort activities e.g. escort clients to and from x-ray, ultra-sound, CLU, and clinics.
      •   Escort clients on the ambulance to different institutions and to homes on discharge.
      •   Ensure clients’ emotional and spiritual needs are met by use of effective communication when interactingwith clients.
      •   Involve the client in the development of his/her care.
      •   Perform home visits with District Nurse, District Health Visitor and Medical Officer.
      •   Assist with formulating health education programs.
      •   Perform other related duties as determined by the appropriate Authority.

      The Nurse will report to the Nurse in charge of the Ward or Senior Nurse at the District Health Facility or Health Centre.

      5. NATURE & SCOPE

      The Nurse, in keeping with the vision of the Authority, is responsible for working along with the Nurse in Charge to perform general or psychiatric nursing activities. Work involves administering medicines, assisting at operations and other similar duties in the care and treatment of patients; some supervision is exercised over sub-professional staff such as student’s nurses, nurse’s aides or other workers engaged in the care and treatment of patients. Duties are performed in accordance with established rules and regulations, standard practices of the profession and in accordance with detailed instruction from a professional superior, who reviews work for the maintenance of standards and adherence to instructions.

      6. SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

      The Nurse would be required to:

      •   Perform general nursing duties such as taking temperatures, pulse and respiration, blood pressure; obtain sputum, urine, blood and other specimens for laboratory examination.
      •   Manage ward ensuring that DDA drugs are accounted for.
      •   Upkeep ward/unit protocols and policies.
      •   Takeover clients from previous shift and give over pertinent information.
      •   Accompany doctors during ward rounds and document comments, treatment, and findings, and update doctors onclient status (general condition of clients).
      •   Order stores (general stores, medical stores, pharmacy drugs, dietary needs of clients) as required.
      •   Consult with heads of departments e.g. Nursing Supervisor, Transport Department, Dietician, Physiotherapist,Social Worker, Community Liaison Officer, Operation Manager, Lab Technician, and X-Ray Technician as partof delivery of patient care.
      •   Admit and assess emergency patients and initiate nursing intervention in emergency cases.
      •   Administer medication as prescribed; accompany patients in ambulance for various diagnostic investigations andtransfer to other hospital.
      •   Apply nursing principles and techniques during care of client checks and record the administration of medicationsand treatments and prepare other reports as appropriate during assigned shifts.
      •   Make continuous assessment, evaluate client status and administer therapy/counsel as ordered.
      •   Attend to patients’ psychological and spiritual needs.
      •   Keep watch over patients with special emphasis on their behavior and observe patients to detect any changes fromnormal conditions and prepare reports.
      •   Supervise patients engaged in occupational and recreational therapies.
      •   Perform daily dressings as ordered, supervise and serve diets.
      •   Ensure intravenous (IV) fluids are given as ordered.
      •   Ensure critical patients are regularly monitored e.g. vital signs taken every 15 minutes.
      •   Carry out instructions given by doctors accurately and appropriately.
      •   Clean and sterilize instruments and dressings.
      •   Perform routine patient care activities such as making beds, serving food and giving baths (include patients in theplan of care).
      •   Allocate staff according to their job description.
      •   Administer holistic care to client, that is, physically, mentally, spiritually and socially.
      •   Be an advocate for patient rights inclusive of educating and counseling patients and relatives about illness andtreatment and about rehabilitation programmes
      •   Manage ward/unit ensuring that shift work is completed and order stock and equipment for ward use.
      •   Insert nasogastric (NG) tubes and administer blood and total parenteral nutrition (TPN).
      •   Keep inventory of equipment delivered to ward/unit.
      •   Work alongside mental health officers at psychiatric clinics, hospitals and communities.
      •   Maintain standard of practice inclusive of implementing nursing care plan and code of conduct.

      The Emergency Medical Technician will report to the Specialist Medical Officer/Registrar/Head Nurse (Accident & Emergency) at the Sangre Grande Hospital and the Primary Care Physician II/Registrar/Head Nurse within the counties.

      5. NATURE & SCOPE

      The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) provides EMT-B Support (Basic Life Support) to victims of illness/injury, per established standards of care and in accordance to instructions given by a senior Clinical Practitioner. The EMT is responsible for responding to emergency calls and facilitating patient transfer in emergency situations from one health care institution to another. Work would be conducted under the supervision of a Senior Clinical Practitioner at the Accident & Emergency Department and General Practitioner Service.

      6. SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

      The Emergency Medical Technician would be required to:

      •   Utilize ambulances and equipment in accordance with established procedures for the delivery of effective emergency treatment.
      •   Responds to emergency calls from within the institution and deliver patient care in emergency situations.
      •   Determines the nature of and the extent of a patient’s illness, injuries and other pre-existing conditions and administer appropriate procedures.
      •   Handles the patient to minimize discomfort and prevent further injury.
      •   Liaise with Senior Clinician or Nurse in charge in the performance of other duties.
      •   Stabilizes non-life-threatening situations, including managing wounds.
      •   Obtains appropriate assistance from the Fire Services, Police, and other public safety agencies where  applicable.
      •   Provides receiving hospital or Health Centre staff with oral and written reports (PCR) of observations and patient care provided and assists as required.
      •   Ensures that personal protective gear is available and operational.
      •   Provides basic maintenance and upkeep of vehicles and liaise with Transport Assistant and Fleet Coordinator.
      •   Conducts cleaning and decontamination of vehicles’ interior and exterior and their ancillary equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures.
      •   Operates communication equipment in accordance with the Authority’s Communication procedures.
      •   Copes with related legal issues as the need arises.
      •   Performs related work as may be required by the appropriate Authority.

      7. KEY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

      •   Knowledge of emergency vehicle inventory and maintenance procedures.
      •   Comprehensive knowledge and skills in Basic Life Support (BLS).
      •   Effective communications skills, both oral and written.
      •   Ability to cope with related legal issues as the need arises.
      •   Ability to think clearly under pressure and make appropriate decisions.
      •   Ability to move medical equipment and load lift and/or carry patient transport devices under all conditions.
      •   Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff members, volunteer providers and the general public.

      8. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

      •   Possession of certification as EMT-Basic from a recognized institution.
      •   At least two (2) years working experience.
      •   Possession of class 3 and 4 driver’s license.
      •   Must be between the ages of 25-45.
      •   Certified Defensive Driver
