Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) for the Caribbean Area is one of 63 Information Centres within the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The UNIC uses strategic communications tools, activities and technical services to promote the mandate and goals of the United Nations in the Caribbean, and to deliver joint communications support to UN Country Teams, Resident Coordinator Offices, and Communications Groups within its Area of Responsibility.
Applications are invited for an unpaid internship assignment based at the United Nations Information Centre for the Caribbean Area (UNIC) in Port of Spain. The incumbent will be under the direct supervision of UNIC’s Director and the National Information Officer (NIO).
This internship is an unpaid assignment. Interns will be required to cover full time working hours, for a minimum of 4 months up to a maximum of 6 months. Part-time schedules may be arranged depending on the UNIC’s requirement.Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Director and NIO of UNIC for the Caribbean Area, the daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s academic background and interests. Internship assignments will focus on supporting the production of written and audio-visual content and products for the website, online platforms and outreach programme of this UNIC.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
· Assist in the production and delivery of information communications products and services.
· Assist in the development and updating of internal databases, data-sharing and collaborative platforms.
· Assist in the researching and compiling of basic information, and drafting of text, for use in the production of communications material about the UN.
· Assist coordination of UNIC photographic records: produce digital imaging, write captions for UN photos, as required.
· Assist preparation of material for, and participate in, meetings, briefings, and consultations with internal and external partners to develop communications activities.
· Assist in the logistics coordination, writing, editing, post-production and distribution of UNIC multimedia material and products, including: participant communications, production material (cue cards, production lists, scripts etc.), selection and cataloguing of audio and visual materials.
· Assist in development, updating and maintenance of UNIC online (web site, regional portal and social media) platforms, including drafting and editing of content; assisting implementation of strategies designed to widen the UNIC’s online audiences.
· Performs other duties as assigned.Competencies

CLIENT ORIENTATION: Considers all those to whom services are provided to be “clients ” and seeks to see things from clients’ point of view-Establishes and maintains productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect- Identities clients’ needs and matches them to appropriate solutions. Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients’ environment to keep informed and anticipate problems. Keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects. Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.
Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
c. Have graduated with Bachelor’s degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent
In addition, applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications; have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes the willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.Work Experience
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity. Candidates will not be considered for employment with the United Nations if they have committed violations of international human rights law, violations of international humanitarian law, sexual exploitation, sexual abuse, or sexual harassment, or if there are reasonable grounds to believe that they have been involved in the commission of any of these acts.
