A tourism tour of Haciena Jacana, a nature resort located in Talparo forest on a 22-acre organic citrus estate, is one in a series of “door-to-door” visits to hotels and site attractions by the Tourism Trinidad Limited (TTL) team.
“Tourism exists in our communities, and it is critical that Tourism Trinidad dedicates quality time interacting with its partners and the people of the island to better understand challenges and constraints faced.” Kurtis Rudd, CEO of TTL made this statement as he led the team on the tourism tour on Friday, July 22, 2022.
Strengthening a public-private partnership
The intention is to get an understanding of the quality of the accommodation and tourist sites that are available in Trinidad. They would hear about stakeholders’ plans and learn more about their challenges and opportunities as the local tourism industry strives to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.
It is envisaged that these series of visits will assist Tourist Trinidad in building a stronger public-private partnership in moving our tourism sector forward. Vincent Quesnel, owner of Haciena Jacana, and Allister Nanan, the property’s general manager and environmentalist, guided the small group on a tourism tour of the eco resort.
Tourism tour of Hacienda Jacana
Winston Nanan of Caroni Bird Sanctuary Tours, talked about the nature resort:
“Haciena Jacana had seen an upsurge of business since the COVID-19 pandemic. With the subsequent border restrictions and the closure of the Asa Wright Nature Resort, citizens have been showing tremendous interest in the facility.
We have also started a 12-day bird watching tour with leading USA tour operator Caligo Ventures/Naturalist Journeys, under the leadership of Peg Abbott, that is really bearing significant fruit.
Moreover, this tour package incorporates several other smaller hotels, so the benefits are spread even wider. These properties are Mt Plaisir in Grande Riviere, Cuffie River Nature Retreat and Blue Waters Inn in Tobago and Pax Guest House in Mt St Benedict.”
Greenheart timber, birds and nature sounds
Vincent Quesnel further stated:
“Our country haven is benefitting from today’s international travel’s preference for sustainable travel and the increasing interest in health and wellness.
All the four-cottages are made from Greenheart timber. These are sourced in Guyana. The furnishings have been custom made in Trinidad and the art pieces on the cottage walls are also local.
All the cottages are named after birds that can be found on this piece of paradise, Gallinule, Lapwing, Nightjar and Woodrail. Indeed, at Haciena Jacana, over 100 bird’s species can be seen and the only sounds you hear are from nature.”
The TTL team will continue the tourism tour as they visit sites, attractions and accommodation properties. The plan is to better understand challenges and constraints faced by partners and the people of the island.
Hacienda Jacana is a peaceful country haven. Slip into the serene setting of a private country paradise, discretely set in 22 acres on the edge of the tropical rain forest at the centre of Trinidad. Relax or BBQ poolside, walk the grounds, bird watch, read a book in a hammock under the trees, fish or canoe in the lake. There are 4 cottages, each with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. You can rent just 1 cottage with either 1 or 2 bedrooms; or all 4 cottages.
