Marriage is a tricky dance, throw in kids, bills, household chores, financial stress and everything else, romance can take a back seat. It’s hard to balance everything and still maintain the hand-holding phase of the relationship.
From plain Jane to getting all dolled up
That’s why every once in a while, I like to get all dressed up and remind my husband of how beautiful I can really be. It also serves as a reminder to me. Most days I wear no make-up, no nice clothes, my hair stays piled up on my head while I concentrate on the kids and the house. It’s not easy but it’s what we as parents have to do. I love my kids and I love the fact that I get to be a stay-at-home mom with them. I get to see all their “firsts” and I don’t mind being a plain Jane most days.
But now and then it’s great to get all dolled up and feel the sparkle! Money is always a concern so we don’t do it often, but every once in a while my husband and I have a date night. We leave our two darling boys with the relatives and we get all decked out and have a couple hours for ourselves. Those couple hours are so important in any marriage. We get to have adult conversation, we laugh, we eat, we remind ourselves of how lucky we are to have found our other halves and of course we get a few moments to miss the kids! And boy do I miss them! It’s only a couple hours but I miss them like crazy!
A few moments of romance
This week, our date night took us to an old favourite, Valpark Chinese Restaurant. We had a date night to celebrate 17 years of knowing each other. We’ve been going there for years now and I love the food. We always love the ambience, the live music of classic songs from Elvis and other legends warm the place and the food is reasonable and delicious! Best shrimp cocktail I’ve ever had.
At the end of the night, my husband and I got the few moments we craved, I got to feel like Cinderella and my kids got a few hours with the grandparents! It’s a win-win for all and every marriage can benefit from a few moments of romance!
