Jason Hospedales, a seasoned artist with over two decades of dedicated practice, has made a significant impact on the Trinidad and Tobago art scene. Hospedales’ artistic repertoire is diverse, encompassing a wide range of media including acrylic on canvas, mixed media, ceramic sculpture, wire sculpture, papier-mâché, and cement sculpture. He shares:
“Through the steadfast endorsement of Mr Charles Cavalho, I gained visibility. Mr Charles Cavalho is a very active businessman in the tourism industry in Trinidad and Tobago. With his support, I secured one of three coveted first-place positions in the 2023 ‘Artist Discovery’ competition, which was extended to all artists of the entire Caribbean. The other two winners were Angelika Wallace-Whitfield, a muralist from the Bahamas, and master artist Philippe Dodard from Haiti.”
This achievement led to a remarkable opportunity. “Alongside my wife Alison and esteemed colleague Nicole Tang, we journeyed to Spain to create a 20 x 6-foot mural aboard ‘The Icon of The Seas’, the largest cruise ship of its time. We completed this monumental work in a mere 13 days, earning acclaim for our artistic prowess and enthusiastic approach,” he says.
Hospedales’ ability to create impactful, large-scale works under demanding circumstances is evident in his successful completion of the mural. The project showcased his technical skills, creative synergy, and collaborative spirit.
