Elizabeth Ainsworth is a Caribbean-Canadian entrepreneur and curry enthusiast. She has been making major strides in spreading the gospel of curry, as her unique brand Esmen’s Curry Powder continues to expand, please palates and gain global favour with foodies and experts alike.

Boasting a unique formula which came to Jamaica from India by Elizabeth’s great-grandmother, Esmen’s Curry Powder is the end result of successful experimentation with traditional curry which effectively balances rich and deliciously spiced flavour.

The beloved recipe is a fusion of turmeric, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, fenugreek seeds and black peppercorn blended in small proportions to ensure the highest quality in its flavour and to maintain the authentic and rich aroma in curry dishes. Curry powder reaches UK, Canada, US and Caribbean

The journey of Esmen’s Curry Powder began in Jamaica in 1984, when Elizabeth’s mother (after whom the product is named) started selling the curry powder as a home-based business in order to fund her daughter’s education.

The curry powder made its international debut years later when Elizabeth was living in England and prepared dishes for friends using the family’s signature spice. The immediate approval and consequent demand for it propelled her into becoming an ambassador and distributor for the UK market.

Fast forward to present day, now residing in Canada, Elizabeth was energised with motivation during the pandemic lockdown to relaunch the brand and take it to the masses.

The Jamaica-born, Toronto-based businesswoman spoke on the praise which the brand has received from the public, the media and renowned social media influencers saying, “I have had positive feedback from everyone. They love how the 5 spices combined, authentically flavoured and aromatised their curry dishes as well as the high-quality packaging for the powder itself.”

The family owned and operated business has already made massive inroads and gotten the products to various consumers and retail outlets in the greater Toronto area, across Canada and even in the US, adding to its already established UK presence.

Online purchase and delivery

With goals to expand the product line to include a Curry Marinade and reach more customers, Elizabeth who is also an IT professional has put online purchase and delivery infrastructure in place. The determined and dedicated entrepreneur also aspires to meet the brand’s growing demand by further engaging retail distributors and getting the FDA-approved product into large supermarket chains across Canada, the US, the UK, and even the Caribbean region.

Additionally, through her cooking videos on the brand’s social media platforms, the fun-loving and optimistic Elizabeth offers viewers ways in which they can make Esmen’s Curry Powder a part of their weekly meal plans. This effort is not only to carry on the legacy of the generational-inspired recipe but to also add to the overall global promotion and use of curry powder and curry dishes.
