Personal care routine for beautiful lips and skin

What is lip care and skin care? That is a question I get asked a lot as a beauty, cosmetic and personal care business owner. It’s a step-by-step process that you go through a certain number of times per week or day to improve your lip/skin condition.

There are many ways to improve your lip/skin condition. Your lips are a very sensitive part of the body. Many may not know this, but different temperatures can affect your lips. If you are constantly in A/C or sunlight this may be bad for your lips in a big way. Even not drinking enough water can cause your lips to flake/crack.

Skin care is a little more complicated. With your skin, what you put into your body, food wise, has a major role to play. Greasy unhealthy foods can cause acne on places such as your face, chest and back.

Dry skin is also a problem many individuals deal with. This has a lot to do with what you use on your skin as well as different temperatures as I said before. So, if you are tired of purchasing products that are not giving you the results you’ve hoped for, here are some tips and products that have shown great results.

4 Lip Care Routines During Personal Care

You may use these four lip care routines during your personal care for beautiful lips. These steps are to be repeated 2-3 times a week.

1. Exfoliate

If you have dry cracked lips and want to remove that dead skin, the best thing for you is a lip exfoliant, for example a lip scrub. Please don’t bite your lips!

You want to make sure that the scrub has ingredients that will be beneficial to your lips to help add moisture to it while removing the dry dead skin.

Sticky scrubs will not do the job. You want to look for a scrub with good texture and consistency. See video on how to apply lip scrub.

Firstly, you want to take your lip scrub and apply to your lips with your hand or a rag. You then massage the scrub on your lips in a circular motion for at least 2 minutes.

Do not scrub your lips or roughly put too much pressure while applying lip scrub. Instead, gently apply the lip scrub to your lips in a circular motion. Then, remove it with a wet cloth or wash it off your lips.

2. Hydrate

The next step is to hydrate your lips with a chap stick/lip balm preferably ones infused with an essential oil. Essential oils are a key ingredient when it comes to hydration, for example, oils like peppermint and lavender.

Avoid lip balms with ingredients such as phenol, menthol and salicylic acid. Lip balms with natural ingredients are the best buy.

Secondly, you want to apply that lip balm a few minutes after exfoliating. You do not want to do this right away because your lips will still be sensitive from exfoliating. Apply evenly onto your lips then rub it in.

3. Moisturize

Moisturizing to me is one of the major keys in any lip care routine. This is the step where you add moisture back into your lips with lip oil, oils such as coconut oil, grapeseed and jojoba oil.

Jojoba oil is a great moisturizer. Its texture forms a protective layer on your lips that helps with cracked dryness.

Coconut oil is a known moisturizer that helps protect any cracked skin from becoming infected. It also contains Vitamin E. Grapeseed oil on the other hand repairs your damaged lip cells and skin.

Apply your lip oil just like the lip balm a few minutes after you exfoliate and hydrate. Think of it as a protective layer to avoid that painful feeling of dried cracked lips.

4. Seal the deal

You are probably wondering what I mean by seal the deal, lip gloss of course. Why not show off your lips by adding a little shine. Glosses are also very good at hydrating and moisturizing your lips. Just make sure they contain the right ingredients before purchasing.

If you are a gloss lover, following this routine will help you show off your lip gloss the right way without worrying about dry crinkly lips. After all that hard work, all you must do is find the right gloss for you.

Skin Care Routine During Personal Care

1. Exfoliate

If you have bad acne, especially on your back and chest, what you eat and drink daily and even your hair products can have a major part to play on your acne in these areas.

Cutting back on greasy foods and drinking lots of water are great ways to start your skin care journey. Back and chest acne are usually more stubborn, so I recommend exfoliating and moisturizing as much as possible. It worked for me, maybe it will work for you.

Body scrubs with ingredients such as jojoba oil, honey or lemon:

  • Jojoba oil – known for its healing properties for acne scars and scratches and its anti-inflammatory agents.
  • Honey – known for its soothing effect and it can help with irritation.
  • Lemon – can kill bacteria that may be trapped in your pores and cause breakouts.

Apply the body scrub on wet skin just before you leave the shower. Rub gently in a circular motion. Let it sit for about 5 mins, then rinse off with water.

2. Moisturizing

For dry skin, look for products with lots of vitamins and moisturizing agents. Body butters are one of the best solutions for dry skin, most body butters are infused with shea butter which is one of the best skin moisturizers.

Shea butter can create softer, hydrated, plumper skin. It also helps prevent stretch marks. Your skin often gets dry in areas such as your thighs, arms, calves and feet.

Benefits of body butters include:

  • Moisturizes skin
  • Forms a protective layer around the skin
  • Reduces wrinkles
  • Contains vitamins such as A, C & E
  • Moisturizes and eliminates any sign of dry, chapped skin and leaves your skin feeling smooth and nourished

The perfect time to use a body butter is right after exfoliating. Its similar to a body lotion but with key differences. It’s a much better moisturizing agent.

Apply a little swatch to your skin and gently rub in a circular motion until its absorbed into your skin. It’s much thicker than a body lotion so a little goes a long way. You’ll instantly feel the smooth touch of your skin after using a body butter.
