      Key and Critical Responsibilities

      The Able Bodied Seaman is responsible to the Master and accountable to the Chief Officer/Mate, where applicable. Assisting in the safe and efficient completion of the duties required by the Chief Officers standing Work Routines, planned maintenance jobs, operational duties, mooring/unmooring, loading/unloading, marshalling of traffic, securing/unlashing of vehicles and general maintenance to the parts of the vessel managed by the Chief Officer/Mate including cleaning, painting and greasing.

      • The AB stands a navigational watch and conducts security rounds of the vessel at sea and in port.
      • Perform work as directed by Captain and assist Engineer as requested.
      • Supervise deck crew and vessel projects
      • Memorise and carry out assignments on the SMS and in conjunction with Marpol and Solas guidelines.
      • Know proper lifejacket donning methods.
      • Monitor safety issues and report hazards to the Mate or Captain on duty for correction.
      • Participate in Safety, Seamanship and other training as required.
      • Ensure that safety equipment is provided and properly used for all tasks involving physical hazards.
      • Assist, under the direction of the Mate or Captain on duty, with the same mooring, docking of the vessel in a variety of weather conditions.
      • Assist with routine maintenance, painting and clean up as instructed by the Chief Mate.
      • Stay aware of guest service and safety issues and provide regular and dependable feedback to the Vessel Master
      • Ensure behaviour and performance supports the companys Mission.
      • Follow company values in responding to others in work situations.
      • Know location of all sea equipment, including fire extinguishers, fire and bilge pumps, fire hoses, lifejacket lockers, emergency lighting, first aid supplies and rescue equipment.
      • Operates all safety equipment (incl. fire extinguishers, fire and bilge pumps, life jackets, etc.) and assisting in the maintenance of all firefighting, safety and lifesaving equipment.
      • Assists with boarding and disembarking of passengers, ensuring passenger safety at all times.
      • Participates in safety drills, meetings and audits.
      • Ensures safe practices are observed while carrying out day-to-day tasks.
      • Performs other related duties, as required.

      Example of Work

      The role’s responsibilities include:

Working knowledge of analytical chemistry and extensive knowledge of the Public Health Ordinance.

      Skills: Proficient in the use and care of chemical laboratory instruments, equipment, and materials , as well as environmental monitoring equipment.

      Abilities: Able to plan, organize, and direct a laboratory. Can prepare comprehensive scientific reports. Can advise and assist other government agencies. Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, the public, and overseas authorities.

      Minimum Experience and Training

      • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in an analytical laboratory, including supervisory experience.
      • A BSc degree in a natural science or engineering, supplemented by an MSc degree in Occupational Hygiene from a recognized university.
      • Membership in a recognized professional body of Occupational Hygienists or an equivalent combination of experience and training is also required.

      Background

      The Environmental Management Authority (EMA) is a statutory body, established by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to address the nation’s growing environmental concerns. It was established with the enactment of the Environmental Management Act of 1995, later repealed, and re-enacted as the Environmental Management Act No. 3 of 2000. Following the revision of the Laws of Trinidad and Tobago in 2006, this Act is now cited as the Environmental Management Act Chapter 35:05. The legislation is aimed at ensuring the protection, conservation, and enhancement of the environment of Trinidad and Tobago. Since its establishment in 1995, the EMA has been working assiduously towards a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for all of Trinidad and Tobago.

      The EMA is co-executing the Global Environment Facility (GEF) project entitled ‘Biodiversity Conservation and Agro-ecological Land Restoration in Productive Landscapes of Trinidad and Tobago – BIOREACH. This project seeks to promote biodiversity conservation, restore degraded lands and improve the livelihoods of rural communities in targeted productive landscapes (agriculture, forestry and other land uses) throughout Trinidad and Tobago. The project is seeking to engage a Field Operations Officer for a period of twelve (12) months.       Job Description

      Reporting to the Technical Advisors (one in Trinidad and one in Tobago) , the Field Operations Officer – GEF BIOREACH will be based in Trinidad but is expected to visit Tobago occasionally in the execution of his/her duties.

      The Field Operations Officer will be required to work collaboratively with Forestry Division, Department of Natural Resources and Forestry (THA) and other key stakeholders involved in the execution of the relevant project activities.

      This includes:

      • site supervision,
      • coordination of training,
      • mapping of areas restored, and
      • producing technical reports under various reforestation /restoration activities.

      Education and experience

      • A Diploma in Forestry and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in field operations related to forestry, restoration, or natural resource management.
      OR
      • A Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry, Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management, Conservation, or a related field and a minimum of 1 year experience in field operations related to forestry, restoration, or natural resource management.

      Practical experience in:

      • site supervision and monitoring of field-based environmental or forestry projects.
      • coordinating or assisting with training activities, particularly in a field setting.
      • Proficiency in mapping techniques, including the use of GIS tools for spatial data collection and analysis, and experience in producing technical reports.
