Waterfalls of Paradise: Historical stories and over 100 breathtaking photos

“It has been a pleasure to visit all the waterfalls in the years that I did… Even today as I remember my visit to Mermaid’s Pool in Trinidad where it all began,” Annela Rajkumar shares insights about her publication Waterfalls of Paradise.

Here is something for all nature lovers, outdoor enthusiasts and book lovers. Waterfalls of Paradise is a unique book exploring 24 waterfalls of Trinidad and Tobago through a description of the hiking trails, historical stories attached to the waterfalls and over 100 breathtaking photographs.

It also includes information on the flora and fauna seen along the hiking trails, added attractions and hikers’ reviews. It is the first of its kind in Trinidad and Tobago to highlight 24 waterfalls of our twin-island.

The publication is a great coffee table book and a collector’s item. It has over 100 colourful pictures that are visually appealing to these groups and it has a lot of information on hiking in Trinidad and Tobago.

My journey with Waterfalls of Paradise

I studied abroad and graduated from the University of Tampa, Florida in 2010 with my Bachelors in Management after receiving an open scholarship and in 2018 with my Masters in Tourism and Management. On my return to Trinidad and Tobago in 2010, I took up hiking as a hobby which led me to researching and writing my first book.

The journey I took with my book was self-publishing as publishing was not popular in Trinidad and Tobago as it is now. It took three years to successfully publish the book. I worked with two hiking groups, Hikers Inc and DHT Dread Hiking Tobago, to visit the waterfalls and hired a photographer to take pictures. The editing, designing and printing of the book came next which took some time as I truly wanted to create a masterpiece.

Sharing my experience with everyone

It has been a pleasure to visit all the waterfalls in the years that I did; and it has been an unforgettable experience. Even today as I remember my visit to Mermaid’s Pool in Trinidad where it all began, I can recall the excitement, surprise and awe I felt, realising that these places exist in Trinidad and Tobago.

It was truly the moment when my passion awoke. Since then, the thirst and eagerness for more magical spots in T&T led me to continue hiking. It was on my third exploration that I decided that this journey and experience should be journalised and shared with everyone. I hope that everyone develops a greater appreciation for our unique twin-island and the many scenic treasures, waiting to be explored.

Positive reviews and upcoming books

I have received only positive reviews of the book thus far. It really is a well-received book. I think people want more because I keep getting asked if there is going to be a volume two.

I would love to do a second edition of the book. It is also my goal to write a children’s book in the near future about a child’s adventure to one of the waterfalls.
