Job Description
In accordance with the Laws of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Chap. 35:50 and Fire Service (Terms and Conditions of Employment) Regulations 1998, the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service (TTFS) invites suitably qualified males who meet the requirements to apply for the position of Firefighter-Grade 1-Fire Service Division, Ministry of Homeland Security.
1. Candidates shall not be less than eighteen (18) years and not more than thirty-five (35) years of age.
2. Candidates must be: –
a. A citizen of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago
b. Of good character which will be verified at a later date by Certificate of Character
3. Candidates must be in possession of any two of the following: –
a. National Identification Card, Drivers Permit or Passport issued by the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
b. Computerized Birth Certificate.
c. In the event of a name change must be supported by an Affidavit/Deed Poll/Marriage Certificate/Divorce Decree
4. Possession of the under mentioned certificates are required: –
a. Three (3) CSEC/CXC/GCE Passes
i. English A (General Proficiency Grade I & II or III after 1998) Compulsory requirement
ii. AND any other two (2) subjects (General Proficiency Grade I & II or III after 1998).
5. Candidates would be required to: –
a. Register with EmployTT
b. Create and activate a profile on the EmployTT platform
c. Apply for the position from the 13th to the 30th October, 2025
6. Candidate applications that meet the requirements & qualifications will be required to write an Entrance Examination set & managed by the Public Service Commission.
7. Candidates who are successful in the Entrance Examination will be listed in order of merit by the Public Service Commission, those selected will be required to undergo a Physical Aptitude Test administered by the Fire Service School.
8. Candidates who are successful in the Physical Aptitude Test will be required to attend an interview by a selection committee of the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service.
9. Candidates who are successful in the Interview phase of the screening process will be required to undergo a Medical Examination conducted by a Government Medical Officer.
10. Candidates who satisfy all requirements (1-9) above, shall be shortlisted to undergo a course of training at the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service School.
11. Candidates who have been selected from the shortlist and have successfully completed the course referred to at (10) above and is, in every respect fit, shall be eligible to be considered for appointment as a Firefighter on probation for one (1) year.
12. Any candidate who fails to satisfy the requirements of the course of training or is otherwise not considered fit to be a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service, shall be discharged from the programme.
Key and Critical Responsibilities
This job requires the incumbent to provide firefighting, fire prevention and other emergency services to communities within the geographical area of a specific fire station. Functions include conducting checks and tests on fire service appliances and equipment, conducting familiarisation visits to factories and institutions, inspecting fire hydrants within station ground, updating records and maintaining a filing system for the station.
