POSITION SUMMARY:

As the Community and Stakeholder Relations Officer for this growing, dynamic Company, your primary objectives are to:

• Provide support to the Corporate Affairs Manager in understanding and managing community and stakeholder affairs.

• Develop and maintain close relationships with all segments within the local population (Host and Fence-Line Communities) to better understand their concerns, needs and aspirations, and keeps the Corporate Affairs Manager informed of major trends and issues that might impact business operations.

• Assist in the overseeing and development of Sustainable Community Programmes which positively impact the community.

• Support CGCL’s partnerships with communities, NGO’s, educational institutions, key influencers, special interest groups and governmental agencies to deliver social and community investment programmes/projects.

The incumbent must be strong in programme and people management skills, possess strong interpersonal and influential skills, be analytical, innovative and results oriented and must have a broad awareness of Community Sustainability Trends.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES / KEY FUNCTIONS:

• Execute Community Relations and support the execution of Corporate Social Responsibility programmes on behalf of the company to La Brea and its fence-line communities.
• Design and implement stakeholder engagement initiatives to ensure effective relationships are built, maintained and strengthened in La Brea and its fence-line communities including but not limited to individuals, village councils, NGOs, CBOs, Corporate Entities and other key stakeholders.
• Proactively engage with and mmobilize community organisations within the host community to participate in CGCL led initiatives that deliver value-added services to the community.
• Deliver key messages to the community on business activities that could have an impact on the community.
• Liaise with regulatory, government and other community groups who may be able to partner with CGCL to provide support on community issues.
• Supported by the Corporate Affairs Manager, function as a mediator between community and CGCL to address/resolve issues raised by community leaders/members/stakeholders.
• Respond to queries in a timely manner.
• Prepare and administer corporate communique and key messages using various communication methods and channels for consumption by internal and external stakeholders.
• Manage community stakeholder engagement on behalf of the company and share details of the company’s community programmes, policies and goals.
• Maintain records of all interactions/community engagements and manage “issues log” with NGO’s, CBO’s and other key stakeholders.  Prepare notes, document issues and log key commitments from engagement.
• Engage service providers specific to the organisation’s communication, events, and CSR needs.
• Identify emerging risks and recommend course of action to mitigate risks.
• Support the maintenance of the company’s traditional and non-traditional communication channels/platforms (facebook, Instagram, website etc) being accessed by internal and external stakeholders and position the channel to showcase the company in a positive light.
• Designs systems to measure and evaluate the impact of the CSR programs in the La Brea Community
• Carry out any other activities which fall within the scope of this post and which are of a similar level of responsibility.

 EDUCATION / QUALIFICATION:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Communication Studies, Mass Communications or a related discipline from a recognized University.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in Communications, Stakeholder Engagement and Community Relations in the petrochemical Industry.
• Experience in stakeholder engagement and conflict management will be an asset.
