“I have had people from all over the world reach out to me via different social media platforms expressing their appreciation and love for my music.” Nikki Solomon, Trinidadian singer/songwriter, shares her journey to launching her first album “Off the Chain”.
Diverse appeal
“My music is created for all age groups. Some songs may be more relatable to adults because of life experiences. I have had teenagers, adults and children reach out to me both locally and internationally expressing their love and appreciation for my music.
Genre-bending artiste
I have not limited my music to one specific genre. My first album, “Off the Chain” consists of a combination of R&B, reggae and gospel music. However, I have many songs written to be released in the future which are a combination of different genres.
From childhood dreams to professional pursuit
I grew up in the San Juan community and have always loved singing. When I was very young, I wrote poems and short stories. However, I discovered my songwriting ability as a young adult. As I grew older, my passion for singing and songwriting deepened.
I continued to compose songs and sing but I also pursued my second passion Psychology, which I attained an associate degree (honours) and a bachelor’s degree (Cum laude). After graduating from university, I plunged into my singing professionally because I never forgot my first love, music.
Sharing my gift: The fulfilling experience of performing
It is a really beautiful experience to perform my songs live for my fans. I often have fans come up to me after my performances to express how much they enjoyed my music/performance.
I can recall an experience I had performing at Kafe Blues at a Jazz event, I met two ladies who spoke to me at length and they said that they liked the fact that my music was unique. One even shared which of my songs was her favourite. I have performed in other places such as 145 Sports Lounge, Chaconia Hotel, Runway Hotel and a variety of restaurants.
Performing is one of the most fulfilling aspects of creating and sharing my music because it means so much to have a positive impact to others through my music. When fans express to me their love and appreciation for my music, it is confirmation that I am fulfilling my destiny to share my gift with the world.
Key influences
I am grateful for the individuals who were influential in my music career. My two children gave me inspiration. My husband, Pascal Solomon, who is also my manager, recognised my talent, and pushed and encouraged me to pursue my career in music.
My other manager, Mr Wendell Naipaul (stage manager/event coordinator), believed and supported me throughout my journey. He always ensured that I had the best team such as the best producers and videographers to bring out the best in the vision I had for my music.
My mother also encouraged me to work hard at perfecting my craft and to reflect my genuine self through my music. Unfortunately, she passed away before I released my first album. Another person who has helped me tremendously is Tessanne Chin and her team who recognised my talent and gifted the marketing aspect of my album and creating the album cover.
Musical roots
My talent was inspired by the music I grew up surrounded by in my home. My father loved listening to Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey’s music. My love for singing started as a hobby when I was a child, by the time I was a teenager I realised how much I was passionate about singing and then eventually realising my songwriting ability led me to wanting to pursue music as a profession.
Fan interactions
I have only encountered good experiences with my fans thus far. I have had people from all over the world reach out to me via different social media platforms expressing their appreciation and love for my music.
A memorable fan encounter
One encounter that stood out to me the most is when a fan from Kenya made a TikTok video where he was singing one of my songs Loving You, as well as playing the keyboard. He also sent a message to me saying that whenever he gets rich, wherever I am performing, he would come to see me sing that particular song live.
That was really touching and it made me come to the realisation of how much my music is impacting people from all around the world. There were many other instances where fans from abroad, as well as locally reached out to me in my video comment sections to express how much my music impacted them.

Beyond music
My other talents are writing stories, as I mentioned previously. My aspiration is to write a few books in the future. I also love designing clothes. With regard to my music I have written many songs that are yet to be released, so my fans can look forward to that in the near future.”
