Civil/Structural Engineer.
The Desalination Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (Desalcott) maintains its position as the largest operating desalination facility in the western hemisphere. The plant produces and supplies potable water to the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA). Desalcott is currently seeking to recruit a dynamic individual to fill the position of Civil/Structural Engineer.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
The Civil Engineer will be responsible for general engineering and general maintenance such as for: buildings, structures, building services, drainage, landscaping, grounds, etc… This will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of any assigned site/project. This includes, liaising with sub-contractors, suppliers and laborers.
- Determining project costs by calculating labor, material, equipment and related costs.
- Producing engineering documents such as determining materials required, purchase requisitions, subcontractor scopes of work, construction specifications, plans, and schedules.
- Confirming adherence to construction specifications and safety standards by monitoring project progress, inspection of construction sites, verifying calculations and placements.
- Maintaining project database (entering data, analyzing data, monitoring trends and completing backups). This also includes the preparation of daily, weekly and monthly reports for Management to be utilized in Client updates.
- Maintaining operations by enforcing project and operational policies and procedures. Also, providing engineering information by answering questions and requests.
- Incorporating special features which relate to the project at hand into specifications. These include order of work, physical conditions at the site, construction work schedules, method of payment and measurement, construction procedures and special methods, and coordination with contractors and other stakeholders.
- Communicating with higher authorities on issues concerning specifications, engineering interpretations and explanations, supply of items, and items of work, and offer recommendations on reviewing specifications.
- Reviewing sub-contract valuations based on work completed.
- Liaising with Clients when required.
Qualifications:
- BSc Civil Engineering from a recognized accredited University.
- MSc Civil Engineering & Construction Management from a recognized accredited University Or Equivalent.
Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a construction environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Planning and execution of engineering projects in accordance with FIDIC
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office applications and Project Planning Software
- Auto CAD proficient
- Excellent oral and communication skills
- Troubleshooting skills
- Team player with leadership qualities
- Availability [excellent punctuality and attendance]
- High level of integrity
- Positive attitude
- Good planning and organizational skills
- Adherence to HSE rules guided by the Trinidad and Tobago Occupational Safety and Health Act of 2004 (amended in 2006)

The plant produces and supplies potable water to the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA). Desalcott is currently seeking to recruit a dynamic individual to fill the position of Mechanical Engineer.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee execution of Contractor Call-outs, Work Order Allocation, Material Requisitions, Maintenance Planning and Scheduling & other Departmental Administrative Activities.
- Supervises and oversees mechanical activities on-site including:-
i) Periodically checking the execution of all planned maintenance tasks (scheduled & emergent) relevant trotating and ancillary equipment and emergency tasks to ensure safety and regulatory permitting compliances and liaison and coordination with other Departments.
ii) Recording and reporting on scheduled compliances – jobs accomplished as planned, or job-scope expansion, re-work or deferred maintenance as required.
iii) Establishing quality assurance during implementation of the routine preventative maintenance checks including vibration and temperature inspections and lubrication rounds on all rotating equipment and making preliminary assessment/ interpretation of readings; determination of more in-depth analysis requirements.
iv) Quality assurance of On-site Contractor work and the execution of special projects as required.
v) Direct and Supervise Mechanical Technicians.
- Development of Predictive Maintenance Protocols and Procedures as required for the New Predictive Maintenance (PdM) Program; with emphasis on vibration analysis and condition monitoring.
- Full Liaison with Contractors & Quality Assurance and occasional supervision of jobs in Contractor Workshops as required; ensuring work compliance to standards, tolerances, fits and working in accordance with sound engineering practices on all jobs under your purview.
- To develop and rationalize mechanical spare parts needs, inclusive of liaison with Procurement in generation of Purchase Requisitions and following up Purchase-orders. This is inclusive of establishing minimum stock levels [parts, tools, specialized plant and equipment], re order points, inventory reviews and research and development for substitute parts and materials.
- Equipment Problem Trouble-shooting and Root Cause Analysis and Development of Solutions; inclusive of background checks, data-mining and calculations as required and research and development to identify suitable alternative solutions.
- Direct involvement and specific project allocation in moving towards Pro-active Maintenance Approaches – Equipment Redundancy Planning and Reliability Improvement Activities; inclusive of Reliability Centred Maintenance approaches.
- Assist in the development of Engineering Document Controls both manual and electronic documents access, manipulation and storage of computerized systems up to and inclusive of Computerized Maintenance Management Information Systems.
In carrying out the above duties it will be necessary to closely liaise with other company personnel, in particular:
Other Engineering Departments, The Process and Operations Department and The Procurement Department.
Qualifications:

Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a process plant environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Preventive and predictive maintenance systems and tools
- Planning and execution of engineering projects
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office applications and Project Planning Software
- Excellent oral and communication skills
- Troubleshooting skills
- Team player and good leadership skills
- High level of integrity
- Good planning and organizational skills inclusive of Emergency response
- Adherence to HSE rules guided by the Trinidad and Tobago Occupational Safety and Health Act of 2004 (amended in 2006)
- Knowledge in QA/QC standards and procedures
- Honest, Committed, Loyal
- Availability [excellent punctuality and attendance]
