Going outside is good for you. Exposure to natural light outdoors helps adjust your circadian rhythms so that you sleep better. Nature can lift your mood, and most of the time, if you’re outside, you’re moving around and getting more exercise than you would if you were slumped in front of the TV.
However, if you want to add more outdoors to your life, one problem that you may run into is that if you’re looking to do something more than go to the local park, getting started can seem a little forbidding.
There’s so much jargon, and you seem to need so much equipment and everyone, but you seem to know what they’re doing. But everyone started in the same place as you at some point, so here’s how you can get up to speed.

Here’s how you can add more outdoors to your life
Take a guided trip
Do you think you might want to hike, kayak, take a cycling trip, or cross-country ski but you don’t have anyone to do it with and you don’t want to invest in equipment you might use only once?
Look to a beginner’s trip led by experienced guides. These usually provide equipment for those who need it, and you can learn from experts what to do and what to avoid. You can also choose trips based on various demographics, such as for a certain age group or for women only. This is also a great way to get to know other people with your interests.
THE DREAM MACHINE FOR EVERY RIDER
Buy slowly
Once you’ve decided on an activity that you like and you think you want to invest in it, you still don’t have to buy everything at once. Go slowly, picking up things as you see them on sale or as you can afford them.
You can use a personal loan instead of your credit card for any big-ticket items, which usually offers a better repayment plan. Look online for loans you might be eligible for, and takes just a few minutes to apply and secure the funds you need.
Start in your backyard
Camping in the yard isn’t just for kids. If you’re intimidated about pitching a tent for the first time or you aren’t sure how to get a good night’s sleep spending the whole night under the stars, doing so steps from your back door ensures that you have all the comforts of home, literally, and you can abort at any time.
Check with a local outdoor store to see if you can rent some equipment, which gives you the chance to try out gear without spending a lot of money.
Go online
Although embracing the outdoors means you’re probably trying to lead a more analogue than digital life, there is a wealth of information online, including videos that show you how to do just about anything.
As is the case with anything, be careful about taking just anyone’s advice. Observe safety measures, and look for a preponderance of opinions. You’ll find that there are a lot of people out there who are eager to help newbies get started in their favourite outdoors pastime.

Hacienda Jacana
Hacienda Jacana is a peaceful country haven. Slip into the serene setting of a private country paradise, discretely set in 22 acres on the edge of the tropical rain forest at the centre of Trinidad. Relax or BBQ poolside, walk the grounds, bird watch, read a book in a hammock under the trees, fish or canoe in the lake. There are 4 cottages, each with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. You can rent just 1 cottage with either 1 or 2 bedrooms; or all 4 cottages.
