Healthy pizza recipes: Celebrate International Pizza Day

Pizza, the ultimate comfort food, a social gathering staple, and often viewed as the enemy of healthy eating. But what if we told you that you can enjoy delicious pizza without sacrificing your health goals? With the right ingredients and a little tweaking, you can enjoy healthy pizza. Bodybuilding champion Kaique Santos (KK) wants to change the perception of athletes having restrictive diets. He shares healthy pizza recipes to show how athletes can enjoy delicious food while maintaining their fitness goals.

He emphasises personalising calorie intake for optimal performance, as athletes have different needs than the general population. His healthy pizza recipes offer essential nutrients without compromising flavour.

Healthy pizza recipes

Chicken and Vegetable Pizza

This delicious pizza features a whole wheat crust, homemade tomato sauce, grilled hicken breast, and an array of fresh vegetables such as peppers, onions, and mushrooms.

Ingredients

– 1 whole wheat pizza crust or whole wheat pizza dough (can be store-bought or homemade)

– 200g of cooked and shredded chicken breast

– 1 cup of homemade tomato sauce or sugar-free tomato sauce

– 1 cup of shredded light mozzarella cheese

– Chopped vegetables to taste (for example, bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, zucchini)

– Seasonings to taste (oregano, basil, pepper, etc)

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).

2. Spread the tomato sauce over the whole wheat pizza crust.

3. Distribute the shredded chicken over the tomato sauce.

4. Add the chopped vegetables on top of the chicken.

5. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the vegetables.

6. Season the pizza with your choice of seasonings.

7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the pizza crust is crispy.

8. Remove from the oven, slice, and serve hot. Enjoy your healthy chicken and vegetable pizza!

Zucchini and Cottage Cheese Pizza

A lighter option, this pizza features a zucchini crust, topped with tomato sauce, low-fat cottage cheese, cherry tomatoes, and fresh basil.

Ingredients

– 2 medium zucchinis

– 1 cup of low-fat cottage cheese

– 1/2 cup of homemade tomato sauce or sugar-free tomato sauce

– 1 cup of shredded light mozzarella cheese

– Seasonings to taste (oregano, basil, pepper, etc)

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).

2. Slice the zucchinis thinly lengthwise to form the pizza base.

3. Place the zucchini slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, forming a pizza crust.

4. Spread the tomato sauce over the zucchini slices.

5. Distribute the cottage cheese over the tomato sauce.

6. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the cottage cheese.

7. Season the pizza with your choice of seasonings.

8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the zucchini is tender.

9. Remove from the oven, slice, and serve hot. Enjoy your healthy zucchini and cottage cheese pizza!
