SENIOR ENGINEER (Cove Power Station)

The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified and competent nationals for the above position.

JOB FUNCTION:

• Manages the maintenance and repairs of the conventional diesel engines at Scarborough and the dual fuel (diesel and gas) engines and gas turbine at Cove, including all associated generators and auxiliary balance of plant equipment, in accordance with the OEMs established maintenance procedures and standards, relevant legislations and the Commission’s policies, procedures and practices.
• Manages the operations of the Power Plants at Scarborough and Cove – Tobago in accordance with the relevant OEMs procedures and standards, relevant rules and regulations and the Commission’s policies, procedures and practices.
• Provides risk, safety and technical engineering support necessary for analysing the performance or non-performance of mechanical and electrical systems in the operating context at Cove, implementing required hazard reductions strategies, and approving plant modification or replacement as required.
• Manages the environmental impact caused by operating and maintaining the plant so that its environmental footprint satisfies the requirements of the legislation or best practices.
• Provides direction, guidance and training, conducts performance evaluation and administers disciplinary action for staff assigned to the Power Plants.
• Prepares estimates and budgets for the effective discharge of the functions and responsibilities of the power plants and monitors expenditure to prevent cost overruns.
• Determines Human Resources requirements, participates in the selection and placement process, and monitors the utilisation of subordinate personnel to create and maintain effective levels of productivity.
• Ensures that foreign purchases of spares for the routine maintenance and safety stock are done economically, and that overhauls are planned so that the spares arrive Just in Time.
• Participates in the determination of annual departmental objectives, goals and programmes.
• Ensures that the maintenance and repairs of the buildings, compound, and equipment at the Power Plant are done to preserve the integrity of the steel in the salt laden atmosphere, the aesthetics of the buildings and compound, and the reliability of the equipment.
• Provides technical support required for assessing tenders and provides technical advice on Electrical Engineering related issues company-wide and participates in accident investigations as a member of the Joint Zone Safety Committee.
• Performs other related duties as required by the job function.
