Office of Magistrate, Judiciary (Magistracy)
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for appointment to the office of Magistrate, Judiciary (Magistracy). The Magistrate exercises authority in the Magistrates Court throughout Trinidad and Tobago and exercises original jurisdiction in a wide variety of matters and adjudicates and presides over court matters delivering fair and unbiased decisions and sentences. There is considerable responsibility as it relates to interpretation of legislation and upholding the independence, transparency and accountability of the Judicial system of Trinidad and Tobago.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Minimum Qualifications:
- LLB and a LEC – Legal Education Certificate
- Admission to practice Law in Trinidad and Tobago
Minimum Experience:- Five (5) years experience as an Attorney-at-Law or considerable working experience
- As an attorney or any other combination of training and experience
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Ability to hear and evaluate evidence and to hand down decisions according to the Laws of Trinidad and Tobago and the ability to write clear, concise and compelling reasons for decisions
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of the Laws and Regulations of Trinidad and Tobago and Rules of Court applicable to the Magistracy
- Extensive knowledge of the practices and rules of procedure in the Magistrates’ Court
- Strong court chairman skills
- Sound knowledge of Public Service Regulations
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral
- Good management and supervisory skills
- Excellent analytical and reasoning skills
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
SALARY: US$33,931 per month
