      Boiler Operator

      Job Summary: The incumbent is responsible for providing steam for the Plant. The person in this position will be required to work on a shift basis.

      General Duties & Responsibilities:

      Operations

      • Start up the boiler daily.
      • Observe and interpret readings on gauges, meters and charts registering various aspects of the boiler operation.
      • Activate valves to maintain required amount of water in boilers, adjust supplies of combustion air and control the flow of fuel into burners.
      • Monitor boiler water, chemicals and fuel levels and make adjustments to maintain required levels.
      • Monitor and inspect equipment, computer terminals, switches, valves, gauges, alarms, safety, devices and meters to detect leaks or malfunctions and to ensure that equipment is operating efficiently and safely.
      • Maintain daily logs of operation, maintenance and safety activities including test results, instrument readings and details of equipment malfunctions and maintenance work.
      • Clean and lubricate boilers and auxiliary equipment mechanically and electrically.
      • Maintain the Total Dissolve Solids (TDS) range.
      • Blow down the bottom of the boiler to get rid of the solids.
      • Ensure that only soft water goes into the boiler and switch Water softener every 12 hours.
      • Report findings to Maintenance Supervisor Daily.
      • Regenerate the softener quality of the water every 12 hours.
      • Perform repairs to Boiler.
      • Ensure that there is an adequate supply of chemicals (LB85L and 5505L) to dissolve the solids in the boiler.
      • Record Boiler readings in the daily report sheet

      Quality Control

      • Test the water quality or arrange for testing and take the necessary corrective action, such as adding chemicals to prevent corrosion and harmful deposits
      • Ensure that there is an adequate supply of chemicals (LB85L and 5505L) to dissolve the solids in the boiler.

      Perform all other duties as required.

      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

      • Boiler training course Certificate.
      • Basic knowledge of Electrical and Mechanical.
      • Knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics.
      • CXC Qualification in Mathematics and English Language.

      • Prepare requisition for stock, non-stock items and contracted jobs.

      • Review all Good received Notes (G.R.N’s) for accuracy and ensure that they are presented to the Accounts Department together with all accompanying documentation.
      • Source and procure stock and non-stock items (local and foreign) and contract services in accordance with the Purchasing Policy.
      • Review all purchase orders and or Capital Expenditure form (CAPEX) for accuracy and obtain the necessary approvals and forward to suppliers
      • Follow-up on ordered items including contracted services to ensure they are received on a timely basis.
      • Receive purchased items from Supplier.
      • Prepare reports as required by head of department on M&R stores operations.
      • Perform other related duties as required.

      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

      • 5 CXC Ordinary Level passes.
      • 4-6 years’ experience in purchasing processes.
      • Computer literate – Word processer and spread sheets.
      • Knowledge of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering processes.
      • Certificate in inventory or stores management would be an asset.

      Job Summary: The incumbent is responsible for making spare parts and services required, available to the Engineering Department.  He/she will also source suppliers of contract services for the repair, improvement of maintenance equipment and to ensure that completion and return to use.

      General Duties & Responsibilities:

      Maintenance of Stock

      • Receive approved requisitions for stock and non-stock items and contracted jobs.
      • Create and maintain inventory database daily.
      • Issue stock based on requisition brought by the employees
      • Ensure that the minimum and or maximum stock levels are not compromised.
      • Prepare Good received Notes (G.R.N’s)
      • Sign for non-stock /contract jobs.
      • Enter appropriate accounting and other data on the relevant GRN and forward to the Accounts Department together with the invoice.
      • Perform cycle counts and annual total counts of all items in inventory.
      • Provide weekly and monthly inventory reports on all items.

      Purchasing

      • Source and / order stock and non-stock items (local and foreign) including Contract Jobs in accordance with the Purchasing Policy.
      • Prepare the appropriate purchase order and or Capital Expenditure form (CAPEX) and obtain the necessary approvals and forward to the Purchasing department.
      • Prepare Purchase orders from Purchasing
      • For Foreign items three copies are to be prepared and the original order to the supplier is to be telefaxed, scanned or emailed and return the original of the purchase order to the Purchasing department and a copy forwarded to Customs and Accounts.  Then retain a copy in a Stores pending file.
      • For local purchases two copies are to be prepared and the original forwarded to the supplier.  A copy is retained in a Stores pending file.
      • Ensure that ordered items including Contract Jobs are received on a timely basis and keep the Supervisor / Manager appraised of their status on a regular basis.
      • Receive purchased items with copies of the relevant invoices, delivery notes etc. from Supplier.
      • Retrieve the copy of the Purchase Order from the pending file and verify the cost, accuracy, specifications and repair of all items purchased including contracted jobs and place in a completed file.
      • Assist with the timesheets for weekly paid workers in the Engineering Department (when required).
      • Perform other related duties as required

      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

      • 5 CXC Subjects
      • Certificate in inventory or stores management would be an asset.
      • 1-2 years’ experience in purchasing processes.
      • Knowledge of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering processes.
