ALTER HER by Asha Diaz: The couture collection celebrating every version of Her

In a stunning fusion of vibrant Carnival culture and high-fashion artistry, the limited-edition collection ALTER HER has been launched, designed for women ready to embrace their full, multifaceted selves. This unique project, which merges the energy of Carnival Monday wear with the sophistication of couture, is the brainchild of Trinidadian designer, yoga instructor, and event curator, Asha Diaz.

ALTER HER is a tribute to the complexity of womanhood. The collection is for “the woman who knows she’s not just one thing, she’s bold, soft, wild, divine, all at once”. Each look is an exclusive, made-to-order piece intended to make women feel both confident and unstoppable. The four core designs, The Untamed Her in red, The Rebel Her in green, The Enchanted Her in pink, and The Divine Her in purple, collectively embody the different feminine energies that reside within every woman.

Asha Diaz, the creator of ALTER HER and founder of the Wadada Movement, wears several creative hats, yet she shared that everything she does “comes back to one thing: helping people, especially women to reconnect with themselves”. The genesis of ALTER HER was deeply personal; Diaz noted that the collection came from her own seven-year journey of “deep transformation, motherhood, growth, healing, and rediscovering who I truly am”. She explained that the project had been years in the making, and those close to her knew how long she had wanted to bring it to life.

For Diaz, the vision for the collection was clear: to take the liberating energy of mas and elevate it. She shared that Carnival had always been a space where women could express themselves freely, and she aimed to merge that essence with high-fashion artistry. The result, she says, is a collection that feels “both liberating and luxurious, like stepping into the most authentic version of yourself”. After realising that she had many versions of herself, she said, “I realised there were so many versions of me, and instead of hiding them, I wanted to celebrate them.”

The collection, which was brought to life with the help of a small, passionate team of friends, is described by Diaz as a true celebration of Trinidadian creativity and womanhood. The response from the public has been overwhelmingly positive. Diaz remarked, “The response has been amazing. Women have really connected with the message behind the collection, that’s the best part for me.”

While acknowledging the learning experience of balancing exclusivity, timelines, and the meticulous details of a couture-style project, Diaz stated that she was now enjoying watching women embody the pieces and truly own their “HER”, adding that there was definitely a possibility of another collection next year.

Registration details: ALTER HER pieces are made-to-order, and availability is limited until early December.
