PowerGen is seeking suitable persons to pre-qualify for its temporary staffing database in the field of HSE.

JOB TITLE:                           Senior Coordinator – Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) 

LOCATION:                          Point Lisas Power Station

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

Working under the general direction of the Head – HSSE, the Senior HSE Coordinator takes a leading role in developing, implementing, coordinating, reviewing and monitors all aspects of the PowerGen’s HSE Management Systems, including its associated policies, procedures and systems for the creation and maintenance of a healthy, safe and environmentally responsible workplace. The position must consistently fulfill this requirement in accordance with laws and regulations related to Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Protection

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Leads the development and implementation, review, audit and monitoring of PowerGen’s HSE Management Systems HSE Strategy and Operations Plan, HSE Section of the Company’s Business Plan, Business Continuity, Crisis and Emergency Management, Process Safety, and other related programs
• Supervises the plants’ HSE personnel in the execution of their duties to ensure that objectives and Business KPIs are met
• Leads PowerGen’s Internal and External HSE Auditing program including planning, scheduling and liaising with stakeholders.
• Ensures compliance with OSH and Environmental legislation and regulations and prepares reports on compliance, which meet the requirements of PowerGen’s management group and regulatory authorities.
• Serves as a subject matter expert and provides sound technical guidance on HSE risk management related issues and leads the identification and implementation of required HSE risk reduction strategies across a broad spectrum of PowerGen’s activities, including operations, maintenance and special project activities.
• Leads the coordination of and guides PowerGen’s preparations for internal and external HSE audits, inspections, investigations etc., determines the specific actions to close gaps identified and closely monitors recommendations to ensure that they are implemented in a timely manner.
• Leads the coordination of the organisation’s Business Continuity Management (BCM) program including the development and implementation of PowerGen’s Crisis Management and Emergency Response program, coordination of drills and provides technical HSE expert support for on-site emergency management and executing emergency exercises.
• Contributes to the continuous improvement of HSE management within the company.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: (Minimum)

• BSc. in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering from a recognised tertiary institution AND
• A Master’s Degree in the specialist discipline from a recognised tertiary institution.
• Relevant Professional Certification from a well recognised body.
• At least twelve (12) years’ experience in  heavy industry preferably in the Power Sector, or in the Oil and Natural Gas Sector, of which at least eight (8) years should include progressive HSE responsibilities at a professional level including operating at a supervisory/managerial level.

SPECIFIC SKILLS AND OR KNOWLEDGE

• Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and presentation skills.
• Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of the regulatory requirements in Trinidad and Tobago relating to HSE and Company policies and procedures.
• Proven leadership skills and team player.
• Strong project management and organisational skills.
• Experience in writing procedures, drafting reports, preparing business cases and ability to plan and apply policy, procedures, concepts, techniques and methods to a variety of operational situations.
• Excellent networking skills and proven ability to cultivate fruitful relationships at state, industry (PLIE), business (local and international) levels as well as with regulatory agencies.
• Sound judgment and decision making skills, with a ‘hands on’, problem solving approach, able to remain calm under pressure and take control of incidents.
• Up to date certification in First Aid.

SALARY:  Professional Grade
