The Institute of Marine Affairs (IMA) is a statutory body governed by the IMA Act Chap 37:01.  The IMA is required to conduct research on the marine and related environment of Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean and to provide an advisory service to the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.  The Institute invites applications for the position of:

INFORMATION OFFICER – DIGITAL CONTENT SPECIALIST

The successful candidate would be required to assist in the dissemination of information and information products using a variety of media including the Internet. The incumbent will work across all digital platforms including website, email, social media, and other digital media platforms as it utilised by the Institute of Marine Affairs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work within a team of Information Officers and Research Staff to consistently develop high quality digital content for the website, social medial platforms, email and other digital messaging platforms utilised by the organisation based on IMA’s strategic plan and objectives.
• Develop content strategy aligned to the strategic goals/objectives of the IMA and editorial calendar to support that strategy.
• Ensure website, email bulletins and social media channels feature new and engaging content that promotes the IMA’s business.

Minimum Qualifications/Experience

• BSc in Journalism, Marketing or a relevant field.
• Three (3) to five (5) years’ working experience.
• Three (3) years’ experience using WordPress Content Management System.
• Experience using languages such as HTML/XHTML, CSS, JavaScript.
• Experience with database systems such as MySQL would be an asset.
• Proficient in using common social media streaming platforms (Facebook, YouTube, OBS).
• Experience using common audio and video editing software would be an asset.
• Knowledge of SEO and web traffic metrics.

SEAMAN

Under the supervision of the captain or other senior officer the seaman is required to assist the marine crew in sailing and attendant functions, including routine maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• General maintenance of research vessels, including cleaning, swabbing, polishing, painting, etc
• Member of technical crew to provide sea transport for scientific and research projects.
• Watch for obstruction in vessel’s path and relays information.
• Handles cables, ropes, anchor it to facilitate vessels departures and arrivals and security.
• Maintain deck machinery and equipment inclusive of oiling and greasing.
• Assist engineer in repair work.
• Transfer cargo/equipment for marine projects to and from vessel. Assists in securing same.
• Reports immediately any irregularity affecting sea-worthiness of vessel.
• Any other related duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

Minimum Requirements:

• Pre-Sea and basic safety training
• 3 years seagoing experience
