Then, use these credits during the night, and in effect using the grid as a battery. If your utility company does not allow this, then you may have to start with a small system and work your way up.

Based on current electricity rates, a system for your current needs will pay for itself within 5 to 8 years. If rates are really increased, the return on investment would only be 3 to 5 years.

So, financing could be an option, as you would be able to pay for the power you need up front, maintaining your current expenditure on power for the next 3 to 5 years. After that, you will have no bills for the next 25 years, at least when it comes to electricity.
