My secret ingredient is love – Wendy-ann

“I love Trinidad and I love cooking, love is my secret ingredient!” says Wendy-ann Alexander, a member of the Church of the Anointed One at Old Road Junction, Saddle Road, San Juan.

Chow chow for Christmas

Wendy-ann cooks for members of her family, community, church, and anyone who asks her to make something for them. She says that they all say her food tastes really good, even her sister’s coworkers at the Hyatt can’t get enough of the dishes she prepares.

Leading up to Christmas Day, Wendy-ann is usually busy making chow chow for her family, friends, and neighbours. She says, “Everybody waits on it with their bottles and I give to whoever wants and whoever else I feel to give.”

Then, at her church she assists with organising the Christmas dinner along with Suzette Antoine, Grace Singh, and Marissa Samaroo. Also, she helps her sister Cheryl Brumant with an annual children’s Christmas treat at La Canoe Road, Lower Santa Cruz.

Secret ingredient of love makes it right

On Christmas Day, Wendy-ann does not cook. She prepares her dishes on Boxing Day. This year she plans to make Shepherd’s pie, macaroni pie, baked chicken, turkey, ham, pastelle, rice, callaloo, potato salad, and green salad.

When Wendy-ann shares her recipes with others, they tell her that the food just does not taste like hers. She states, “It is an art. You need to be loving the food to make it right. Love is my secret ingredient.”
