Read on to discover some of the best whisky cocktail blends that will have your guests impressed and mesmerised at the same time. You can never go wrong with some of the magnificent whisky cocktails mentioned herein. Be sure to try a good number of them to pick your favourite.
1. The Bourbon Apple
While this may not necessarily be the rare blood oath bourbon blend that many whiskey lovers would kill to have, it is still an excellent choice for anyone entertaining a close group of friends. It is a perfect choice for summer because of its refreshing traits. What’s more, many will love it since it does not have the tropical sweetness that is not everyone’s cup of tea. All you need is a 50ml bottle of regular chilled soda or an apple, some crushed or sliced 3/4 apple, and two measures of whisky.
You can constantly adjust the ingredients depending on the amount you want to make, of course, guided by the number of people you will be hosting. Start by putting the whisky in a cocktail shaker, adding the soda and some ice, and then shaking well. Crown the cocktail by topping it with the crushed apple and serve.

2. Hot Toddy
Now that you have a good alternative for summer, it is also great to know your options if you intend to entertain guests in winter. Fortunately, the hot toddy will not disappoint. This fine whisky blend comprises simple ingredients that you can find with a lot of ease around your kitchen. First, you need to get your favourite whisky and some lemon and honey. To make it:
- Get two measures of whisky, one tablespoon of honey, and a quarter a piece of lemon.
- Squeeze the lemon into a tumbler and add the honey to the juice.
- Add the whisky measures and top up with some hot or warm water, depending on the user’s preference.
- Serve and enjoy.
This is a perfect way of enjoying whisky even when it is freezing outside. No one says you have to make hot cocoa or chocolate only if your palate requests something alcoholic. Do not sacrifice your love for whisky because of the cold weather when you can make this blend.

3. Ginger Highball
You do not have to sacrifice the taste of your whisky just because you are making a cocktail for everyone else. The ginger highball cocktail ensures that this is precisely what you get. The Japanese came up with this type of cocktail to maintain the authentic taste of whisky while combining it with other exciting ingredients. The secret is not only in the ingredients but also in the method of making the cocktail.
First, you need to get two measures of hickey and 4 to 5 measures of ginger ale. In addition to this, bring one lemon or half of it. You can also do without the lemon since it is only for garnishing. To make the drink, start by filling a highball glass with ice.
Add the whisky and top-up with your ginger ale. Then cut the lemon into half and squeeze half of it into the mix. You can then choose to garnish the drink by cutting a slice from the remaining lemon. This is optional and only applicable for someone who desires the extra punch.
Suntory Toki
(70cl, 43%)
Suntory Toki Bottling Note
A blended whisky from Suntory’s three distilleries: Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita. Toki has a different composition to another Suntory blend, Hibiki, as its main components are Hakashu single malt and Chita grain whisky. It should work really well in a highball.
Fun fact: ‘Toki’ means ‘time’ in Japanese.

4. Irish Coffee
If you love both coffee and whisky, this is the perfect blend for you. You get to enjoy a little bit of both worlds without sacrificing the other. You require 50ml of unsweetened and cold whipping cream, 50ml of Irish whisky, two tablespoons of soft brown sugar, and a cup of well-brewed coffee as the mandatory ingredients. Also, add a dash of nutmeg powder. To make it, start by first filling a tall glass with hot boiling water and letting it stand for a few seconds before pouring out the water.
Next, you should whip the cream to a point where the bubbles disappear, and it starts to thicken and form ribbons underneath. It would help if you then placed the whipped cream back in the fridge. Next, take two tablespoons of hot water and dissolve the sugar in a small pot where you bring it to a boil. Add the brewed coffee and stir, then remove it from the fire. To this, add the whisky and stir.
Pour this mixture into the preheated glass, take your cream out of the fridge, whip it once more, and pour it into the mix over the back of a spoon to avoid it sinking to the bottom. Add the cream until you get to the rim of the glass. You can finish by garnishing with a dash of nutmeg and serve it immediately. This is probably the best whisky cocktail you will ever have.
