I left Boston approximately three years ago to be with my love Ashook Parboo. Every day I thank God for the great life that he has provided for me. Our wedding date was set for December 15, 2013.
It would give us just the right amount of time to prepare for our big day. It was so hectic. From deciding what colour schemes to the flavour cake we wanted. My husband-to-be didn’t want to be so much involved in the preparations. He just agreed to what he thought was needed.

Choosing clothing for our Hindu wedding ceremony
We decided to do a traditional Hindu wedding. It just seemed so much more intriguing. I prepared day and night with his family and mine. Everyone helped out and everything fell into place.
Our colour scheme choices were blue and lilac. I simply had to get a red velvet wedding cake. We went to Priya’s Creation for the clothing for our wedding ceremony and decided to have a reception after which we purchased a wedding dress and suit. Everything was actually going to happen.
Days of the Hindu wedding
On the Thursday before the wedding, I had to go home in La Romaine to do my part at the ceremony. It began on Friday with saffron being rubbed on my skin by five little girls up until Sunday morning. Tassa music was enjoyed all throughout Saturday night. It turned out to be a handful and sadly I missed out on my husband’s side for the previous nights when I was not there. I heard they had a lot of fun.
We enjoyed ourselves to the fullest
After the ceremony, we were allowed to change into our reception clothes. It took a while in between all the rush from the temple to the reception hall. We enjoyed ourselves to the fullest despite a few mishaps. I wouldn’t change anything if I had the chance to do it again.
We are officially married and loving it!

It is celebrated annually on May 30th. The history of Indian Arrival Day traces back to the 19th century when Trinidad and Tobago underwent significant demographic changes due to the abolition of slavery. After the emancipation of African slaves in 1834, there was a demand for labour in Trinidad and Tobago's agricultural sectors, particularly in the sugar industry. The colonial authorities turned to India as a source of cheap and abundant labour to address this labour shortage. The British colonial government implemented a system of indentured labour, similar to the previous system of African slavery but with some legal differences. Under the indentured labour system, Indian labourers were recruited from various parts of India, primarily from the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Bengal, among others. They were promised work contracts, wages, housing, and provisions for a specific period, typically five years. In exchange, the labourers agreed to work on Trinidad's plantations. The first ship carrying Indian indentured labourers, the Fatel Razack, arrived in Trinidad on May 30, 1845. This event marked the beginning of a mass influx of Indians into the country over the following decades.
