      Police Complaints Authority vacancy – INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST

      The Police Complaints Authority (PCA) is seeking suitably qualified individual to fill the position of Information Technology Specialist.

      INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST

      ROLE PROFILE
      To provide strong support to the IT Administrator by planning, installing, maintaining and supporting the client/server infrastructure within PCA to ensure the smooth operation of the network and to provide maximum performance and availability for users working in accordance with PCA’s policy and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and the laws and regulations of Trinidad and Tobago. Perform related duties and provide relief as required.

      CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

      Business Results & Internal Operations

      • Assist in the development of a strategic technology plan directed towards the achievement of Police Complaints Authority’s Vision, Mission and Strategic goals
      • Implement a regular maintenance schedule to monitor, maintain and support Police Complaints Authority’s technical infrastructure
      • Trouble-shoot, researching/identifying system faults, problem solving/taking corrective action to prevent potential problems/ensure prompt resolution
      • Compile statistical data to aid in planning, problem solving and timely preventative maintenance
      • Install, support, maintain the server hardware and software infrastructure
      • Execute hardware and software updates as necessary
      • Perform periodic backup, restore data and automate recording systems and reporting tasks
      • Review/update/maintain IT Policy Manual, security/risk management system
      • Review/evaluate workflows and operational systems, processes and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness and minimise down time
      • Maintain/update the PCA website, servicing email service/internal network
      • Monitor network usage inclusive of web usage by employees
      • Ensure proper custody of records and information
      • Provide specialist advice and knowledge
      • Complete reports and administration requirements
      • Manage individual workflow effectively to ensure operational efficiency

      Service Networking & Stakeholder Relations

      • Provide Help Desk support and quality service to internal/external customers in a courteous and professional manner
      • Respond promptly to network queries/ problems, providing training/technical support for users with varying levels of IT knowledge and competencies
      • Assist in surveying the performance needs/goals of users and in researching new technologies to improve productivity and determine the most appropriate hardware and software for usage
      • Adopt a problem solving approach to IT issues
      • Project a professional image promoting respect and loyalty for the PCA

      Risk Control & Management

      • Implement routine preventative measures and monitor closely to ensure effective network security
      • Assist in setting up user accounts, permissions, passwords, and levels of access, provide firewalls, spam and virus protection as required to safeguard system integrity, prevent unauthorised access and damage to data
      • Assist in preparing/documenting a contingency/disaster recovery plan to facilitate the timely retrieval of data
      • Assist in ensuring IT equipment complies with industry standards
      • Assist in updating infrastructure documentation
      • Follow IT policy/procedures, assist in updating policy documentation
      • Is alert to suspicious activity and suspicious persons
      • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation
      • Maintains confidentiality
      • Maintain professional practice standards 

      HR Team Building & Employee Relations

      • Actively participate in the transfer of knowledge and best practice to enhance performance
      • Co-operate/work closely with management/staff for the overall success of PCA
      • Ensure connectivity and integrated functioning to increase successful outcomes
      • Attend meetings, briefings and training
      • Implement organisational change effectively
      • Report to work punctually and regularly
      • Set an excellent example 

      REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

      • Minimum of a First Degree in Computer Science or relevant field from an accredited university
      • MCSE, MCSA or MCITP certification
      • Minimum of four (4)  years experience in the related field with:
      • LAN technologies, including multiple network operating systems (NT, LAN Server), topologies (Token Ring, Ethernet) and protocols (TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, Netbios/Netbook), and Wide Area Networking
      • Knowledge and experience with PC hardware and software technology as well as file interchange, shared network resources, internet access, and electronic mail
      • Sound knowledge of the PCA Act 2006

      Certification and/or Experience in the following areas will be considered an asset:

      • Server 2012\2016 Management
      • Exchange Server 2010\2016 Management
      • Windows Server 2008\2012\2016 Management
      • Active Directory Maintenance
      • FileServer\DHCP\DNS Management
      • Fortinet Firewall Support
      • Cisco Cloud PBX Maintenance and Management
      • Symantec Endpoint Management
      • Sage 50 Accounting Management
      • VMware vSphere Essentials Maintenance
      • VPN Configurations
      • PaperCut Software Maintenance

      REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

      • Undoubted integrity, confidentiality and strong initiative
      • Strategic thinker with sound analytical, risk assessment and problem-solving skills
      • Proactive, creative, mentally alert, organised, thorough and accurate
      • Able to work long and irregular hours
      • Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
      • Flexible team player with good networking, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
      • Sound ability to identify and assess trends and changes in the global environment and to influence positive change
      • Computer Literate with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Suite
      • Global outlook with intellectual curiosity
